Kells shopping campaign fronted by Chamber
A massive campaign to encourage people to shop in Kells this Christmas has been undertaken by Kells Chamber of Commerce. 'Shop in Kells' vouchers, Christmas lights and a visit by Santa are among a number of projects undertaken by the Chamber to encourage people to shop in the town this festive season. Chamber president Jess Olohan said the Chamber would also encourage the town council to introduce free parking in the town in the run-up to Christmas. The voucher system allows people to buy gift vouchers, which can be used in participating shops in Kells. Last year, many local businesses gave the vouchers as Christmas presents to their employees and this meant the money involved stayed in Kells. Ms Olohan said the vouchers were also ideal Christmas gifts for individuals and that it was vitally important to keep business in Kells. The vouchers are on sale this year in SuperValu. Last year, the Chamber sold €45,000 worth of the vouchers. Ms Olohan said that new shops are welcome to come on board this year. She urged people to buy the vouchers are presents for their friends and family and pointed out that they can be used in all sorts of outlets, including hairdressers and beauty salons, hardware and electrical shops, butchers, boutiques and even garages. "It is possible to do all your shopping in Kells and people should remember they will need their local shops when Christmas is over. "Traders in the town rely on the Christmas trade to carry them halfway through the year," she said. The Chamber will also be providing Christmas lights this December and Santa will arrive in the town on Sunday 6th December to switch them on.
