Athboy's 'Fiddler' enjoys successful run

Athboy Community School presented 'Fiddler On The Roof' which enjoyed a very successful run from 11th-14th November. The show had a cast of over 100 made up of first, second, third, transition year and fifth year students. The story was set in Anatevka in Tsarist Russia in 1905, centring on a Jewish family led by Tevye, brilliantly played by Sean Raymond, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives. The role of his wife, Golde, was brilliantly played by Rút Ní Theimhnean. Also outstanding were Melissa Cooke as Chava, Sophie Kelly as Hodel, Meghan Ennis as Tzeitel and John Tynan as Mottel. Ally Doherty also excelled in the role of Yente, the matchmaker. Special credit must go to teachers Ms McGowan, musical director, and Ms O'Mahony, choreography. The students also have thanked the director, Mr Ray O'Hare. This was the school's third musical, having staged 'Bugsy' in 2005 and 'Disco Inferno' in 2007.
