On your bike for marathon event

Navan Road Club will hold their annual fundraising 24-Hour Roller Cycle event from this Friday, 11th December (midday) until Saturday, 12th December. This marathon event will take place beside the town hall in Navan and Tom O'Connor who won the inaugural ARC men's mini-marathon this year will perform the official start at 12.0 on Friday. The cycle will continue into the night and finish on Saturday, 12.0. Matt Nolan, chairman of the club, who recently won the 'Leisure Cyclist of the Year Award' will take to the rollers on opening day and over the following 24 hours the top cyclists in the club will be out in force. Once again all funds raised from the event will go to ARC Cancer Support Centre. This centre is a community-based charity supporting men and women coping with cancer, their families and friends. All services are provided free of charge. Since 2004 club members have taken part in cycle challenges in Cuba, California, South Africa, Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria and have raised €173,000 for the ARC Centre. As part of the fundraising event there will also be a free raffle for a mountain bike sponsored by Navan Cycle Centre. The general public can enter this raffle at the roller cycle event. There will also be plenty of spot prizes and giveaways on the day. Collectors will be circulating around the town to accept donations from the public and the cyclists are hoping that the weather will be fine for the occasion. With Christmas just around the corner Santa is expected to make an appearance to hand out some presents to our club members. The club wish to thank Enda and Sadie Blaney from Teach na Teamhrach who are the main sponsors of the event.
