The funeral takes place today (Wednesday) of Mr Pat Carolan, Athlumney, and formerly of Kilcarn Park, Navan, a member of Meath's 1949 All-Ireland winning team and a well-known cattle farmer and horse breeder. Mr Carolan passed away on Sunday, and his removal took place to the Church of the Nativity, Johnstown, yesterday evening (Tuesday). Deceased was a regular forward on Meath senior football sides in the late 1940s, and came on as a substitute in the 1949 All-Ireland senior football final against Cavan, in which Meath secured the county's first ever All-Ireland senior football title. He had played in the 1947 Leinster final against Laois, when Meath went on to be beaten in the semi-final by Kerry, and lost the opportunity to travel to New York for the famous Polo Grounds final. In the Leinster Final of 1949, he started in the Number 13 jersey against Westmeath. Two years later, Mr Carolan was on the Meath team that won the league final in New York against New York, and he played up to 1952 Leinster Final against Louth. In his latter years, Mr Carolan and his wife, Helen (nee Davis), moved from Kilcarn Park to Athlumney. They also lived at Brownstown, Navan, for a period. Deceased is survived in additon to his wife, by his family, Denis, Ruth, John, Matthew, Lynn and Jane; sisters, Molly, Nellie and Bridie; brother-in-law, Tommy; in-laws, grandchildren and his extended family. The funeral Mass will take place at 11am in Johnstown Church this morning (Wednesday), with burial afterwards in Kilcarn Cemetery. ____________________________________________________________ Terry Burd, Cruicetown Mr Terry Burd, Cruicetown, Kilmainhamwood, Kells, passed away peacefully at St James' Hospital, Dublin, on 21st November, aged 75. A carpenter by trade, deceased worked at Gypsum Industries for 21 years, and was well known in the locality for his work and great sense of humour. He is survived by his wife, Bernie; daughters, Yvonne, Geraldine, Valerie; son Terry junior; son-in-law, Feichin; daughter-in-law, Collette; grandchildren, sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a large circle of friends. Mr Burd's funeral took place from the Church of St John the Baptist, Nobber, to Nobber Cemetery. A month's memory Mass will take place in the Church of St John the Baptist on Saturday 26th December at 8pm. ____________________________________________________________ George Foley, Navan The death occurred on 14th November last of Mr George Foley, Macetown, Navan. Aged 79, he passed away peacefully following a long illness at Woodlands Nursing Home, Trim Road, Navan. Deceased is survived by his wife, Maureen; daughter, Anna Mary; brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Mr Foley was predeceased by his brother, Frank. The funeral took place from St Mary's Church, Navan, to St Mary's Cemetery. ____________________________________________________________ Annie Fulham, Ballivor The parishes of Killyon and Ballivor were deeply saddened by the passing of Mrs Annie Fulham, at the age of 89. Predeceased by her husband, Patrick, in 1989, she is survived by her sons, Thomas and Patrick; daughters, Rose Anne, Killyon; Doreen and Margaret, England; Catherine Sherlock, Ballivor; brothers, Patrick and James Ryan, Ballivor; sons-in-law; daughters-in-law; grandchildren; great grandchildren; relatives and a large circle of friends. The funeral took place from the Church of St Columbanus, Ballivor, to Killyon Cemetery. ____________________________________________________________ Tony Jones, Kells One of Kells's most popular figures, Mr Tony Jones, St Brigid's Terrace, died last week, causing great sadness over a wide area of the town and beyond. Mr Jones was president of Kells Musical and Dramatic Society, a former president of the PTAA and president of the local branch of the Labour Party. A native of London, he moved to Kells 40 years ago when he married his late wife, Kathleen, and immediately became involved in the community life of the town. Over the years, he worked as a projectionist in the old cinema, was a lollipop man and was chauffeur to Lester Piggott. The cathaoirleach of Kells Town Council, Cllr Brian Curran, paid tribute to him for his work with many charities in the town and extended sympathy to his family. He was a member of the musical society for 29 years and his first role was as the Demon King in 'Little Red Riding Hood'. He enjoyed playing villians in the local stage productions, and was a talented stage designer, making props for many shows. He was president of the society for the last 12 years. "He was a lovely man and will be missed by everybody. He was a great character around Kells," according to John Grant of the Kells Musical Society. Deceased is survived by his sons, Patrick and Liam, and his extended family. His funeral took place from St Colmcille's Church, Kells, to the adjoining cemetery last Friday morning. ____________________________________________________________ Kitty Corrigan, Mullingar There was great sadness in Killyon parish following the news of the death of Mrs Kitty Corrigan, Mullingar, and late of Drummond, Longwood, in Multyfarnham Nursing Home, aged 80 years. She was a keen card player and gardener. Predeceased by her husband, Joseph, in 1981, deceased is survived by her daughter, Ursula Robinson, Mullingar; son-in-law, David; and grandchildren. The funeral took place from the Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar, to Killyon Cemetery for burial.
