Gardai appeal for information after man stabbed in Navan estate

A Lithuanian man in his 20s underwent emergency surgery after sustaining serious injuries in a stabbing at a house in Navan last week. The 27-year-old, who was stabbed in the stomach, underwent a number of operations to treat his injuries and, while initially he was in a critical condition, he is now stable in hospital and Gardai are hopeful that he will make a full recovery. The injured man was part of a group of Lithuanian men believed to be living in Drogheda who visited the house at Abbeylands Lane in Navan on Wednesday morning, at around 9.40am. An altercation broke out and the man was stabbed in the stomach. He was taken to the A&E department of Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, at around 9.45am with serious injuries and was transferred to the Mater Hospital by ambulance that afternoon for emergency surgery. The occupant of the house received less serious injuries and was also treated at the A&E at Navan Hospital. Navan Gardai immediately launched an appeal for information on a black Renault Megane vehicle that was used to bring the seriously injured man to Navan Hospital. Superintendent Michael Devine has thanked the public for their assistance so far following their appeal for information on the vehicle. "I would like to thank the people around Navan for the tremendous response to the appeal for information on the black Renault Megane hatchback. "It has UK number plates with the rear plate being yellow. We are interested in hearing from anyone who spoke to the occupants of that car before 10am last Wednesday morning," said Supt Devine, adding that Gardai are satisfied the occupants of the car sought directions to the hospital. After dropping the injured man to hospital, the occupants departed and the vehicle was set on fire near Stackallen on the Slane-Navan Road, shortly after 10am. Gardai are anxious to hear from anyone who saw the car make its way out the Slane Road from Navan or at any stage on Wednesday morning. It is believed there were at least two men in the car as it drove in the direction of Slane. Gardai have spoken to two men who are helping them with their enquiries - a man in his 40s and a man in his 20s. No arrests have been made in the case as yet but it is understood that arrests are expected to be made in the coming days. Anyone who saw the car on Wednesday morning or who may have given directions to the occupants is asked to contact Navan Garda Staiton on (046) 907 9930 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
