The funeral took place in Athboy on Friday last of Mr Andy Byrne, one of the town's best known personalities who served as 67 years as sacristan at St James' Church. In his 88th year, Mr Byrne, of St Joseph's Villas, died at St Camillus Nursing Home, Killucan, where he was resident for the past five years. He had been in ailing health recently but passed away suddenly on Tuesday of last week. Mr Byrne was one of the earliest recipients of Athboy Community Council's person of the year award in 1986. He was the recipient of a Benemerenti medal from Pope John Paul II in 1979. Deceased served with four parish priests in Athboy, Fr Michael Conlon, Fr Ernest Dempsey, Fr John Paul Kelly and the present pastor, Fr Patrick O'Connor. He is survived by his brother, Paddy; nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. The funeral took place from St James' Church, Athboy, to St James' Cemetery. The chief celebrant was Fr Seamus Heaney, PP, Delvin; assisted by Fr Pat O'Connor, PP, Athboy, Fr Seamus Houlihan, PP, Nobber; Fr Paddy Casey, retired PP, Carnaross; Fr Oliver Devine, PP, Ballivor; Fr Joe Clavin, PP, Dunshaughlin; and Fr Tom Gilroy, PP, Kinnegad. _____________________________________________________________ Maureen Ward, Kells Mrs Maureen Ward, Dulane, Kells, whose regretted death occurred on 6th February last, was a member of the Collier family of Rosmeen, Kells. Aged 81, she was predeceased by her husband, Tommy, in December 1996. She is survived by her daughter, Maura, and son, Ronan, both Dulane; brother, Eamon Collier, Woodlands, Navan; brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. The funeral took place from Mullaghea Church to Carnaross Cemetery. _____________________________________________________________ Julie Cogan, Wilkinstown Widespread regret was caused by the death of Mrs Julie Cogan, Ladyrath, Wilkinstown, Navan, at St James' Hospital, Dublin, on 31st January last. Aged 60, deceased worked as a nurse, and was a member of the Lynch family of Rathdrinagh, Beauparc. She is survived by her husband, Thomas; son, Paul, Ladyrath; daughters, Gillian, Balsaw, Wilkinstown and Ruth, Ladyrath; sister, Breda Cogan, Rochestown, Slane; brothers, Jim Lynch, Creewood, Slane, Sean and Gerry, both Rathdrinagh, Beauparc; son-in-law, Derek Clarke, Balsaw; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The funeral took place from the Church of St Louis, Rathkenny, to the adjoining cemetery. _____________________________________________________________ Caroline Keenan, Navan There was widespread sorrow following the sudden death on 10th February last of Caroline Keenan, of Herbertstown, Bohermeen, Navan, a member of one of the town's well-known business families and a prominent business person in both Navan and Trim. Aged 45, Ms Keenan passed away at Dunmoe Cottage, Dunmoe, Navan. Daughter of the late Tom Keenan and his wife, Mona, the family is long associated with the Round O Public House on the junctions of the Slane and Proudstown roads in Navan. With her sister, Monique, deceased was co-owner of the Carique stores on Metges Lane, Navan, and at Trim Castle Hotel; and the Tantrums and Tiaras store on Metges Lane. Ms Keenan is survived by her daughters, Aimee and Caoimhe; mother, Mona, Dunmoe; sisters, Sharon, Monique, and Maria; brother, Mark; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The funeral took place from St Mary's Church, Navan, to Oram Cemetery, Castleblaney, Co Monaghan. _____________________________________________________________ Thomas Marry, Drumconrath Mr Thomas Marry, Cloughmacoo, Drumconrath, Navan, who died on 8th February last, was aged 79, and was a native of Drumconrath. He is survived by his wife, Sally; sons, Paddy and Joe, both Drumconrath, Thomas, Donegal; daughters, Rose McCusker, Ardee, Anne Stewart, USA, Sarah Kelly, Drumconrath, Joan Carolan, Ardee, Catherine Levins, Collon, relatives and friends. The funeral took place from St John's Church, Nobber, to Drumconrath Cemetery.
