Memories of 'The Waltons' in Kells this weekend

John-Boy Walton's truck, Jack Lynch's Ford Zodiac and Twiggy's Rolls-Royce will be among the vehicles featured in this weekend's inaugural indoor Vintage and Classic Cars and Motorcycles Show which will take place in Kells. Over 100 cars and motorcycles will be on show over the two-day event, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday. Among the exhibits will be the 1930s Ford Model A Truck that was used in the iconic 'Waltons' TV series and which was driven by John-Boy Walton. Also on show will be his 1938 Ford Prefect Convertible, one of only five survivors of this model of car in the world. A Rolls-Royce owned by 1960s model Twiggy and the Ford Zodiac owned by former Taoiseach, Jack Lynch, will also be on display. For the motorcycle enthusiast, a 1911 James motorcycle and sidecar as well as a 1937 Ford 7W 10 will be there. In keeping with local Kells history, an Armstrong Siddley car, which was the vehicle of choice for Lady Headford who resided in Headford House, Kells, in the 1940s, will be on display. The event is expected to attract in excess of 2,000 vintage and classic vehicle enthusiasts from all over Ireland to the indoor showrooms of McKeon Motors, Bective Street, Kells. All donations received at the show will go directly to the All-Ireland Air Ambulance fund which relies completely on voluntary contributions and fundraising as it does not receive any Government funding. The first air ambulance will be launched in Ireland April 2010 and will be on show in Kells at the weekend if it is not on a recovery mission on the day.
