Nobber gig for trad band Coscán

Coscán, the traditional and folk music group from Meath are just back from a trip to the North of France, where they had a number of performances at the Slainte Festival in Lens. Coscán is made up of Slane men Gerry Doggett on fiddle, accordion and tin whistle, David Nevin on bodhrán, percussion, keyboards and vocals, and Harry Long who plays low whistle, tin whistle and vocals and John Shankey from Nobber who plays guitar and vocals. On Saturday 27th March, they'll play in Dee Local, Nobber from 10pm. Indeed, they played a great set recently in Dee Local, a gig which also celebrated John Shankey's 50th birthday and their setlist included an excellent version of 'Will You Go Lassie Go' and many instrumental pieces. Coscán recently launched a new album 'Dinnseanchas' in Boyle's of Slane. It has received great reviews including in the Irish Music Magazine. David Nevin says that "The tunes and songs on the album are associated with places from Tara to Spain, to local areas like Ballinlough and Stackallen and then to South America and so on. The traditions and lore of these places, which is what the word Dinnseanchas means, is what is captured in this album." The album was recorded by Gerry Simpson in Soundtrax Studios in Monasterboice, Drogheda. While the genre is traditional, the sound is very contemporary. There are 13 tracks on the CD. Two are songs and the rest are tunes.
