A ramble along the Boyne
The latest book by Trim poet and writer Tommy Murray went on sale this week. 'With the Boyne Through Trim' is the 12th book by the popular local writer whose previous works include the very successful 'Voices of Trim' and 'Trim, Looking Back'. 'With the Boyne Through Trim' is a nostalgic stroll from Scariff Bridge to Bective Bridge, pausing at some interesting places along the seven-mile route. Nor is it an accident that the trip tends to get bogged down around Trim before continuing on the journey. Shops and establishments that are long since gone are revisited, as are landmarks like Trim Races and the Trim Show which all figure in this entertaining ramble. Described by Mr Murray as a follow-up to the hightly successful 'Trim, Looking Back' which sold out within a week in 2005, this book runs to 100 pages with a full colour cover. Speaking about his new book, Mr Murray said: "I see this book as a trawl downriver from Scariff Bridge to Bective Bridge, taking in stories and anecdotes with necessary flashbacks into the history of the watercourse in this area, while the fact that the town of Trim is slap-bang in the middle is not a coincidence. After all, Trim is my home town and, during the course of my life, I have seen it grow in importance with each passing decade." Mr Murray said the book is important in recording a way of life that might not only be forgotten but also lost forever. He added that his book should have a particular appeal to people not only along the route of the Boyne at this location, but to thousands who live in the broader catchment area. "My aim is to tell the stories of the men and women who lived, worked and played along not only a particular area of the Boyne, but of tributaries as insignificant as the Trimblestown and the Rock, and all within living memory and maybe a bit beyond," said Tommy. The book is on sale in Trim Post Office, Antonia's Book Store and the Trim Visitor Centre in Trim Town Hall.
