Fildes best at Mondello

Easter Sunday saw the first race of the Magic Bullet Formula Libre Ireland 2010 Championship at Mondello Park. The class is continuing to grow with new Meath drivers coming on board, Fergus Faherty from Wilkinstown and Stephen Daly from Dunshaughlin, son of Dan Daly, both in the two-litre class. After qualifying Ken Fildes took pole followed by Stephen Daly, Dan Daly and Peter Dwyer. The race got off to a blistering start with Sylvie Mullins coming from the back of the grid to fifth place by the Honda corner. By lap five Dan Daly had taken a comfortable lead with Fildes, Stephen Daly, Mullins and Dwyer in hot pursuit. However, astonishingly in lap 12 problems occurred in the Daly camp when both father and son left the race. Dan's 92 Reynard developed an electrical problem while Stephen's fuel pick up failed. This left Fildes with the lead and a tussle between Mullins, Dwyer and Pat Casey for the chequered flag. The race finished with Fildes first, Mullins second and Dwyer third. John Daly put in an excellent performance despite losing 40 seconds when he spun on Honda corner in lap three and went on to collect 17 points in the over two- litre class where he is in second place.
