Clancy Brothers tribute in Ashbourne
The music of one of the most acclaimed groups of Irish musicians, the legendary Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, will be celebrated on Saturday next, 17th April with an impressive production presented by renowned balladeers, The Kilkennys, in Ashbourne House Hotel. 'Fine Girl Ye Are' is a two and a half hour theatre show that tells the amazing story of the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, from their origins in rural Ireland to international stardom as Ireland's greatest folk and ballad group. The production contains all the greatest hits from the iconic musicians including 'Brennan on the Moor,' 'I'll Tell me Ma,' 'The Holy Ground,' 'Will Ye Go, Lassie' and a host of others sung and performed by a group of musicians who are well known for their incredible musical ability and high energy shows. Over the past 12 years, The Kilkennys have emerged from the traditional settings of the Irish pub scene as a group of musicians with the ability to reinvigorate traditional Irish music and ballads and take them to a new generation. From the humble beginnings of a bunch of young school friends bonded by their love of Irish music, The Kilkennys have toured the length and breadth of Ireland gaining recognition as one of the country's hardest working bands. Having shared the stage with world renowned Irish artists like Shane McGowan and Finbar Furey and after countless performances to Irish communities all over the world, the band have taken their music to an international stage and have become synonymous with modern Irish music. They have successfully re-introduced Irish folk and ballads to a young audience while also winning the hearts of the more seasoned traditional music lovers. These four young men, who play a bewildering array of traditional instruments, grew up just 16 miles from the Clancy home town of Carrick-on-Suir. Naturally, they have absorbed the spirit and energy of the music from a young age and were destined to continue the tradition and present the songs in a totally authentic and vibrant way. Tickets are on sale now from Ashbourne House Hotel.
