Carnaross FG branch puts forward Yore as Dail candidate

Cllr Catherine Yore has signalled her interest in running as a Fine Gael candidate in the next general election. Cllr Yore, from Carnaross, who was first elected to Meath County Council last June, has been put forward as a potential candidate by the Carnaross Fine Gael branch. A daughter of John and Carmel Yore of Carnaross, she is a teacher at Whitecross National School in Julianstown. She said this week she would be interested in putting her name forward when the party holds an election convention for Meath West. "I am enjoying my work as a councillor and am very interested in politics. I enjoy meeting people and the greatest honour you can have is to represent the people," she said. At a meeting in the Carnaross Inn last week at which Senator Liam Twomey outlined the Faircare Health Policy put forward by Fine Gael, Cllr Yore said the proposals would transform Irish healthcare. She said Faircare was an integrated unified approach and must be implemented in its entirity to deliver benefits. She said it could not be implemented immediately but would take a number of years to put in place. "While medicine is not my area of expertise, I believe a vast improvement in the health of our people will be secured by implementing an annual health check for every single person. I am a great believer that one stitch in time saves nine and, in this case, we are not just talking about saving money, but saving pain, suffering, sadness, loneliness and facilitating families to spend more happy years together," she said. She said she knew from first-hand experience during her father's recent serious illness that sickness brings much worry to patients and families alike, and that while it is difficult to deal with illness in the best of circumstances, many people have to endure long delays for treatment which adds considerable stress, anxiety and pain. She acknowledged the expertise, professionalism and dedication of the staff of the Irish health service and stressed that the need to reorganise the health service is not due to any failing in its staff. Cllr Yore warned the next years would be difficult and challenging, but said they are not without hope. "Our greatest resource is our people, and our ability to shape and mould our country and our future. I believe that Fine Gael's policies offer solutions to many of the problems our country faces in these difficult times and I hope the Irish people look closely at our ideas when they chose our next government," she added.
