Recent deaths 22-05-10

There was widespread sadness following the death of Mrs Mary Loughran (nee Clarke), Robinstown, Navan, peacefully at her home surrounded by her family and the support of Meath Hospice Homecare on 20th April last. Mrs Loughran (81), was predeceased by her husband Thomas in 1987. A native of Killinkere, Co Cavan, she went to Liverpool after the Second World War to train as a nurse. On return to Ireland, she trained as a midwife in the Old Coombe Hospital and spent many years as the district nurse in the Dublin area. She came to Trim to work in the maternity hospital and upon its closure, transferred to the nearby St Joseph's Care of the Elderly, where deceased spent many happy years making lifelong friends with the staff and sisters, until her retirement. Mrs Loughran was a founder member and director of Meath Hospice Homecare and enjoyed fundraising with committee members. She was known to be a lively character, hard working, good fun and great company. Deceased is survived by her daughters Mary Hennessy, Newcastlewest, Co Limerick, Rose Daly, Robinstown, Joan Loughran, Newry, Carmel Gray, New York; son, Thomas Loughran, Robinstown; daughter-in-law, Martina Loughran, Robinstown; sons-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, 11 grandchildren, relatives and friends. The funeral took place from the Church of the Assumption, Robinstown, to Dunderry Cemetery. A month's mind Mass will be offered on Saturday 29th May at 10am in Robinstown Church. _____________________________________________________________ James Smith, Kells There was deep sadness over a wide area following the recent death of Mr James Smith, Calliaghstown, Kells, at the age of 35. A native of Kells, he was the son of Joseph and Kathleen Smith. Deceased is survived, in addition to his parents, by his sister, Liz Quaid: brother-in-law; John Quaid; niece, Ciara Quaid; uncles, aunts, cousins and extended family. A large crowd attended the removal of his remains to St Colmcille's Church and the funeral to St Colmcille's Cemetery. The Smith family would like to thank the emergency services and gardai, as well as all their neighbours and many friends for their support at a difficult time. _____________________________________________________________ Kevin Dunne, Slane The death recently occurred at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, of Mr Kevin Dunne, Kellystown, Slane, at the age of 87. A native of Willistown, Dunleer, he was a farmer who devoted his life to his family and his farm. He was a keen gardener who lived life to the full and was in perfect harmony with nature. He had a love of sport, especially Manchester United, and was an active member of the Slane Active Retirement group, where he met may new friends. Deceased is survived by his wife, May; daughters, Angela Topping, Drumconrath; Caroline Duffy, Willistown, Dunleer, and Jean Daly, Clonard; sons, Frank Dunne, Kellystown, Slane, and Patrick Dunne, Giltown, Slane; 15 grandchildren; sons-in-law, Jim Duffy, Ned Daly and Seamus Topping; daughters-in-law, Teresa Dunne and Eimear Dunne; brothers-in-law, Jimmy and Johnny McGuinness; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Campbell, Ann and Gaye McGuinness; his nephews in the Sexton and Dunne families and his cousins, the Matthews family of Donore and Drogheda and other relatives. His remains were removed to St Patrick's Church, Slane, and the funeral took place after Mass there to Slane Cemetery.
