Genealogy research in Kells
Dear sir - I'm trying to piece together a family tree which has its roots in Meath. The Meath Heritage Centre has been immensely helpful in providing basic information but moving on from there is proving extremely difficult. Hence this appeal for help. Some of your readers might be familiar with some of the names mentioned in the following. The story so far: Mary Ann Byrne (my mother) was born on 21st April 1894. Her parents, who lived in Maudlin Road, Kells, were John Byrne and Margaret Farrelly. Margaret died 11 days after the birth. Her parents were Michael Farrelly and Mary Smith, both of Kells. August 1896: John Byrne married Anne Brady, daughter of Owen Brady and Bridget Reilly of Kells. They had two daughters, Josephine and Bridget. My mother, together with Josephine and Bridget, were pupils at the Sisters of Mercy College in Headfort Place, Kells, in 1911. I think they were boarders. The witnesses to the first marriage were Patrick Martin and Mary Cowley. The witnesses to the second marriage were Patrick and Catherine Martin Essentially, I am asking for anyone who might, however remotely, have any knowledge of any of the characters above to contact me. I'm now 71 and keen, if not anxious, to understand better my family background as much for the benefit of my family as myself. Many thanks. Yours, Malachi Doyle, Poors Farm, Chapel Lane, Marshside, Nr Canterbury, Kent, UK. email mpd@sumal.plus.com
