Leinster star Jackman lends support to Mannix appeal

Former Ireland International and Leinster rugby player Bernard Jackman will be guest of honour at the Mannix Kane Appeal Butterfly Ball in Trim's Knightsbrook Hotel on Friday 25th June. Jackman has offered to do what he can to support the appeal in aid of the young Kildalkey boy who has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, clear cell sarcoma stage 4. His parents hope to be able to bring their son to the United States and involve him in clinical trials. From 8pm til late, the black tie event will include pre-dinner drinks, a four-course meal, entertainment by the Legends of Swing, an auction and raffle. Corporate tables are welcome. For information or to reserve tickets, contact shirley@mannixkaneappeal.org or call (087) 751 7193 or (046) 943 5773. About 70 women took part in this week's Women's Mini-Marathon for the Mannix Appeal and Navan RFC is organising a 'Battle of the Boyne White Collar Boxing Night' this Friday, 11th June, at the Newgrange Hotel, Navan. Tickets are €25. Contact Owen Hanratty on (087) 251 6359. Four year-old Mannix has just passed the halfway mark of his treatment plan in Dublin, having spent the majority of the past three months in hospital. He got home indefinitely about three weeks ago but is still undergoing daily chemotherapy, the side-effects of which have been taking a toll on him. To date, around €140,000 has been raised for the appeal.
