New waste collection service launched

This week sees the official launch of a new waste collection and recycling service in Drogheda/Navan and surrounding areas. Its operators claim the new service offers householders and businesses an opportunity to make significant savings on their waste collections. The east Meath-based Tag-A-Bin service is the brainchild of local businessmen Dermot Saurin and Andrew Cullen, both veterans of the Irish waste industry with a combined 30 years' experience. Up to 40 local jobs will be created with the launch of Tag-A-Bin which includes an investment of €2 million. Drogheda man Dermot Saurin said: "From this week, householders and businesses in Drogheda and Navan will be able to make significant savings on their waste and recycling costs by switching to Tag-A-Bin for their waste collections. Customers are crying out for cheaper waste charges and, with our two easy options, customers can decide which suits their personal circumstances best." He said customers have been very confused by the swipe card system introduced by some service providers and would prefer the old tag system, which it has reintroduced. "For those customers who don't like the tag, we have a monthly option for just €19.99 which works out a just €4.99 per week, there are no hidden charges and we are standing over our prices. We will also provide all new customers with brand new bins and we will collect bins every week as opposed to every two weeks," he added. Tag-A-Bin carried out sample research amongst 1,000 householders in Drogheda and Navan during January, asking them if they were happy with the price and frequency of their current waste service. A substantial 82 per cent per cent of householders surveyed would prefer a weekly collection and 74 per cent believed they are paying too much for their waste collections. Almost 90 per cent of householders said they would switch to an alternative service provider if it resulted in significant savings for them. The company said they will deliver brand new free bins to all customers who switch and remove old bins and deliver them back to old suppliers. The business is based at the new City North Business Park at the City North Hotel, near Gormanston.
