Celebrity status for Nobber footballers
The Nobber intermediate footballers are in line for at least 15 minutes of fame when the next series of Celebrity Bainisteoir is screened by RTE after the club was selected to take part in programme. The cameras arrived in Nobber on a Saturday recently and during the course of the morning and afternoon manager Davy Cahill and the players were interviewed, as well as a few locals. The same day the players found out that their bainisteoir for the forthcoming tournament will be Blathnáid Ní Chofaigh who will also be assisted in looking after the team by a mentor. "The lads weren't totally surprised when we found out it was Blathnáid. We had been told that the bainisteoir would be a celebrity from the Meath area and the players had come up with a list of four or five candidates and she was among them," explained Cahill. As part of the programme Cahill was filmed talking to the players and handing over the bainisteoir bib to Ní Chofáigh. Over the coming weeks Ni Chofaigh will hold a number of training sessions with the players. According to Cahill, the team's involvement in the Celebrity Bainisteoir programme is welcome especially at this time of the year when their is a lengthy break between games in the IFC as Meath continue their quest for All-Ireland glory. The 2009 Celebrity Bainisteoir football tournament was won by Glasdrumman GAA club Co Down who were managed by Derek Davis with Pete McGrath acting as the mentor. The programme is confined to intermediate teams presenting them with an opportunity to gain national publicity they might otherwise not have. Among the celebrities who have taken part in the tournament in the past are George Hook, Ray D'Arcy and Andrea Roche.
