Wartime nursing in Britain
Dear sir - I am lecturer in nursing at Trinity College Dublin in the School of Nursing and Midwifery and wondered if you could help me to recruit contributors to an oral history project on Irish nurses who worked in Britain during the Second World War 1939-1945. While many accounts of the elites and political leaders of this time of immense import exist, there are few accounts of the viewpoints of the the foot soldiers of social change. In addition many Irish nurses played a very important role at the homefront during the war effort and this contribtion has largely gone unrecorded and unacknowledged. I would be interested in hearing from Irish nurses who might have memorabilia from this time such as photographs, film reel, badges, certificates, uniforms, instruction books, travel passes, ration books and of course their personal memories and firsthand experiences of their time in Britain as intending or registered nurses. I would also be happy to hear from second hand sources. Yours, Jacinta Kelly, Lecturer in Adult Nursing, School of Nursing and Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin, 24 D'Olier Street, Dublin 2.
