There was great sadness over a wide area at the recent death of Owen Duffy of Abbeygrove, Navan at the Mater Hospital. A native of Skryne, Tara, deceased was a taxi operator for 20 years and was a founding member of Town Radio Taxis. He was very well known and liked in Navan and surrounding areas and always spoke fondly of his childhood in Tara and then Skryne, and loved a trip down memory lane when talking with his brothers and sisters. After his previous stay in hospital, four years ago, Mr Duffy could not wait to recover to do his next taxi run. He enjoyed good conversation with his customers, many of whom he knew from his youth. One of his proudest moments in recent years was when he became a grandfather to Nicole in 2004 and twins Ben and Lucy in 2005. He was a keen reader of Louis L'Amour cowboy books and always enjoyed an old black and white film. Mr Duffy was passionate about Gaelic football and enjoyed a flutter on the horses. His family sorely miss him and it is a consolation that his last words were of his love to his wife, Sheila. He is survived by his wife, Sheila; daughters, Eve Alder, Silverlawns, Navan and Vicky Duffy, Slane; son, Kris Duffy, Abbeygrove, Navan; grandchildren, Nicole, Ben and Lucy; brothers, Patsy, Skryne, Seamus, Walterstown, Noel, Kilmessan, Mickey, Skryne, Colm, Navan, Stephen, Dunsany and Tommy, Dunsany; sisters, May Byrne, Garlow Cross, Nancy Jordan, Summerhill and Margaret Duffy, Canada; sons-in-law, Darren Alder and Alan Louth. He was predeceased by his sister, Kathleen Collins; brother, Danny Duffy and sister-in-law, Bernadette Duffy. His remains were removed to St Mary's Church, Navan and the funeral took place to St Mary's Cemetery. _____________________________________________________________ Bernadette Mulvany, Beauparc The death occurred on 10th August last of Mrs Bernadette (Detta) Mulvany, Thurstainstown, Beauparc, Navan, aged 75 years. Deceased was a member of the Lyons family, Beauparc and passed away at St Joseph's Hospital, Trim. A former employee of Slane Mill, she was a community spirited person, and played an active role in the Beauparc Legion of Mary, Beauparc ICA and Beauparc Active Retirement Group. She is survived by her husband, John; sons, Oliver, Kieran and Paul, all Beauparc; daughters, Lorraine Hughes, Macetown, and Siobhan DeLappe, Clonsilla; sister, Clare Dunphy, Gibbstown; sons-in-law; daughters-in-law; sister-in-law; grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The funeral took place from Church of the Assumption, Beauparc to the adjoining cemetery. _____________________________________________________________ Larry Allen, Navan The death occurred on 2nd August last of Mr Larry Allen, Bridge Street, Navan, one of the town's best known characters who was a founding members of St Mary's Musical Society. Aged 82, Mr Allen passed away unexpectedly at Ratoath Nursing Home. Deceased had originally worked as a cabinet maker at Bard Walsh's furniture factory, which was one of the biggest employers in the town at one time. Mr Allen loved the stage and helped set up Navan Musical Society. He had a love of horse-racing and had an indepth knowledge of the sport. He also had an encyclopedic mind of Gaelic games of the past. Deceased was also a keen walker, and covered many miles. An active member of the Pitch and Putt club, his coffin was draped with the club flag. He is survived by his sister Madge Gaffney; brother Jimmy; brother-in-law Brian; sister-in-law Maisie; Paul and Bernie Gaffney; nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, Joey and Noel. The funeral took place from St Mary's Church, Navan to St Mary's Cemetery. A month's memory Mass will take place on Saturday 4th September in St Mary's Church, at 6pm. _____________________________________________________________ John Doggett, Trim The death occurred on 25th July last of Mr John Doggett, Griffin Park, Trim. Mr Doggett (79) had bravely battled illness in recent months, and had remained positive throughout, while lovingly cared for at home by his dedicated wife of 41 years Lily, and family. A native of Trimblestown, he was one of a family of eight. As a young boy, deceased spent his summers working on a farm known locally as 'The Dutchman's'. It was in this time he grew to love nature in all its forms. His passion was fishing, and many people will credit him as teaching them how to fly fish. At the time of his death, he was vice president of Trim and Athboy Angling Association. He worked for over 30 years in Trimproof, Trim where he made lifelong friends. His removal and funeral to St Patrick's Church, Trim and St Loman's Cemetery was attended by a large number of mourners, including a guard of honour on both occasions by the angling club which was a fitting tribute to a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and gentlemen. Deceased is survived by his wife Lily; daughter Geraldine; sons Michael, John and David; grandchildren Robert and Sarah; brother Tom; sister Josephine; daughters-in-law; sisters and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews; and a wide circle of friends. _____________________________________________________________ Mary Conneely, Lambay and Athboy There was much sadness over a wide area following the death of Mrs Mary Conneely (nee Martin), Rathvale, Athboy, who passed away at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, on 29th May last. Aged 94, Mrs Conneely, was a native of Camus, Co Galway. She moved to Lambay, Trim, with her family in 1937 where she met and married Colman Conneely in 1943 and started farming where home grown and farm produce were put to use in every day life. Deceased and her husband believed that the farm should be self sustained and proved their belief over the years. Mrs Conneely was proud of her faith and it never waned in good or bad times. Her other love in life was Irish music and most of all sean nós singing. She often enteratined family and friends with her soft gentle singing. Mrs Conneely was predeceased by her husband in 1995. She is survived by her daughters, Maura Whelan, Galway; Norah Morgan, Birmingham; Kay McEnnaney, Mullagh; Theresa Weldon, Kilbride; Brid King, Kilmessan; sons Thomas, Rathvale; Padraic, Clonee; Tony, Mitchelstown; Frank, Curraghtown; sister and brother; sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and many friends. The funeral took place from Kilbride Church to the local cemetery. _____________________________________________________________ Mary Toner, Delvin The death occurred at the end of July of Mrs Mary Toner, of Balrath South, Delvin, who was well known in Athboy where she worked on the staff of McElhinney's Fashions. She passed away at her home on 27th July last, aged 51, following a short illness, causing widespread sadness. The removal took place from St Camillus Nursing Centre Chapel, Killucan to the Church of the Assumption, Delvin, where they were received by Fr Seamus Heaney. Fr Heaney also celebrated the funeral mass, assisted by Fr Michael Whittaker, Enfield. Burial took place to Delvin Cemetery. Mrs Toner is survived by her husband, Gerard; mother, Mrs Margaret Cooke, Delvin; brothers John and Gerry, Delvin; sister Margaret Heneghan, Enfield; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. _____________________________________________________________ Philip Quinn, Navan The death occurred suddenly on 4th August last of Mr Philip Quinn, Sion, Johnstown, and Limekiln Wood, Navan, at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, aged 47. A carpenter by trade, he was a fan of sport, in particular hunting. He also enjoyed listening to music. Deceased is survived by brother Denis, Drumree; sisters Loretto Barker, Bohermeen, and Dolores McNally, Alexanderaide, Navan; brothers-in-law, Tossie McNally, Tom Barker and Pat Watters; sister-in-law, Ann Quinn; uncle, Christy McLoughlin, Ardsallagh; aunts; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The funeral took place from the Church of the Nativity of Our Lady, Johnstown to St Mary's Cemetery, Navan on 7th August last. His month's mind Mass will be held on Tuesday 7th September at 8pm in Johnstown Church. _____________________________________________________________ Sheila Murray, Fordstown Mrs Sheila Murray, Fordstown, Navan, peacefully passed away at her residence on 6th August last, at the age of 86, causing widespread sadness. Deceased was a member of the Nugent family, Oristown, Kells, and was predeceased by her husband, Michael, in November 1984. She had lived in a number of locations, spending six years living in Dundalk and had never forgotten the place or the warmth of the people there. Mrs Murray settled in Fordstown over 50 years ago and over a long lifetime made many wonderful friends along the way. Her door was always open with no chance of ever leaving without a cup of tea and a chat. Deceased is survived by her daughter Rosemary; sons Ray, Noel, Aiden, Gary and Sean; daughters-in-law; partners; grandchildren; great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. The funeral took place from the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Girley, to the Old Cemetery, Oristown, Kells.
