Meade on the double at Galway

Castletown trainer Noel Meade enjoyed a double a Galway at the weekend. Silverhand followed up on a recent Festival win at Ballybrit with another victory in a hurdle race for jockey Paul Carberry on Sunday. Silverhand was well supported (1/3) and chased the leaders before improving into the straight and staying on well to give Meade his 10th winner of the season. The former champion trainer was on the mark with Dark Prospect on Saturday in a maiden hurdle, also for Carberry. Drumree jockey Keith Clarke was also in the winners' enclosure after Doransfirth won a handicap hurdle, but had to survive a stewards' enquiry Clarke hit the front entering the straight and won by a short head from The Lady Granuaile. Ashbourne jockey Andrew Lynch maintained his good strike-rate with trainer Henry de Bromhead when he won a novice chase at Galway on Saturday with Kilmurry and a grade two race at Tipperary is the next target. Lynch completed a double when One Cool Tornado won a novice hurdle. Tony Martin was also in the winners' enclosure with Ruby Walsh when Another Ambition landed a handicap hurdle for Mullingar husband and wife owners Dermot and Peg Kilmurry. Down Royal on Friday gave Carberry and Gordon Elliott another winner when Makhaaleb opened his account over hurdles. Like a lot of the Elliot-trained horses, Perth in Scotland will be the next assignment. Kilcock trainer Vincent Ward gave Clarke the leg-up on Striking Force at the Ulster track and the duo obliged in a maiden hurdle. Barry Geraghty was successful with Golden Grimshaw in a conditions hurdle for Dungannon trainer James Lambe. Geraghty also won a beginners chase with Norther Bay. Trainer John Larkin saw his eight-year-old gelding Olifan D'Oudairies (14/1) landed the spoils in an eventful handicap chase for Duleek owner Sean Gallagher. Bellewstown hosted the final two days of its season last Wednesday and Thursday. Summerhill jockey Robbie Power partnered Jessica Harrington's Takeyourcapoff to a facile victory in a maiden hurdle on Thursday. Andrew Duff teamed-up with the ex-Ger Lyons flat specialist Rockazar, now trained by Denise Foster near Enfield to win a hurdle while Athboy woman Lily Lawlor was successful with the versatile Pires, trained by Martin, in a hurdle. Cortown jockey Roger Loughran kept the Meath flag flying when partnering Grangeclare Gold to victory in a handicap hurdle and completed a double when Talab won a three-mile maiden hurdle. Nina Carberry won the bumper for Kilkenny trainer Kieran Purcell with Smokey Joe Joe. The in-foal Fourpenny Lane made her final racecourse appearance a winning one in the feature event on Thursday evening's card at Tipperary for trainer Joanna Morgan who got off the mark earlier in the card with Beauthea which dead-heated with the Luke Comer-trained King's Bastion in a handicap. At Downpatrick on Monday, Elliott saddled his 27th winner of the campaign when 11/8 favourite Boragh Princess landed the mares maiden hurdle for Carberry. Michael Mulvany made a worthwhile trip to Galway on Monday where The Silver Crown was first past the post for Declan McDonogh in a one-mile handicap while Johnny Murtagh completed a treble.
