New play area opened at Nobber NS
A new purpose-built play area opened last week at Nobber National School for the infant classes in the school. The Nobber Primary School parents' association raised funds for the playground through the Tom Flynn Memorial 10km road race and additional funding was provided by the Nobber Vintage Club, who donated €2,000 from the proceeds of their Fair Day held last May. The Tom Flynn Memorial 10k, which took place last December, raised over €8,600 and this money covered the cost of development of the new 400 square metre play area. The race was organised by Louise Flynn in memory of her husband, Tom, and she was helped by teacher, Ronan McGahan, and the parents' association. Tom Flynn passed away in December 2006 and the memorial race marks the anniversary of his passing. Tom was a secondary school teacher in Kells Community College and was an active member of Nobber Primary School Parents' Association. He was a native of Killinkere, Co Cavan, and was widely known in the GAA community, both in his native Cavan and in Meath. The race was a very exciting event in which 170 runners and walkers took part. The parents' association has thanked all who helped out in any way with the organisation of the event and, in particular, Louise Flynn and Ronan McGahan, Nobber Vintage Club and all those who assisted and contributed to both events. The association will hold the second Tom Flynn Memorial 10km race on Sunday 19th December next. Money raised at the event will go towards the Nobber Primary School Parents' Association Development Fund. The route will be the same route as last year's event and will begin at Nobber Fire Station and go out the Possextown Road towards Rolagh Bridge and on to the Cregg Road and back to the school.
