As a grocer's daughter from a large family in Dublin, she took an interest in people from an early age and had an uncanny abilty to make people feel welcome. In later years, she successfully ran a pub in Ducketts Grove, Carlow, with her late husband, Jim, before retiring to live in Meath. Patsie O'Byrne had a great community spirit and lived a very active life as a member of the local community for over 20 years. She believed that, along with her family life, community and friendship all helped her to feel young at heart for many years. This was often reflected by her listening and support to all who needed it. In Wilkinstown, she was a founder member of Wilkinstown Active Retirement Group and was privileged to serve as its president. Mrs O'Byrne was also a co-ordinator in the local ALPS group. She enjoyed many card nights at the local whist and bridge clubs and was devoted to her family and the Church. She loved travelling at home and abroad with both family and friends and organised many trips for the groups with which she was involved. She was deeply devoted to her family and held a strong religious faith. She bore her illness with great courage and fortitude and lived her life to the fullest until her last few weeks.
