One law for bankers; another for rest of us
Dear Sir - New Revenue district manager for Meath Paddy Faughnan intends to 'get tough' on already struggling shops and businesses around the county (Meath Chronicle, Saturday 11th September) who may be less than honest with their tills and day's takings. It's a pity the Revenue Commissioners don't seem to be as heavy-handed on the banks whose reckless lending got the country into this mess, and the politicians and bankers that regularly flout laws and falsify expenses claims. Across the county, these struggling businesses are desperate to stay open and provide employment, and while not condoning any 'black market' activity, it seems any attempt to make a few quid on the side will be met with the full rigours of the law, while phoney expense forms and reckless loans will go unpunished. It seems there is one law for the politicians and bankers, and another for us. Yours, Damien Mooney, Clonmahon, Summerhill.
