McEvoy's tour kicks off in Slane
Eleanor McEvoy's new single 'Look Like Me' and album 'I'd Rather Go Blonde' were released last week and she sets off on a nationwide tour this month to showcase her work, beginning in Boyles of Slane tomorrow (Thursday) 30th September. McEvoy's music has evolved and developed over her career and within her new album there is a serene confident statement that she is the master of her craft. The new album is mixed by Ruadhri Cushnan, who did the breakthrough Mumford & Sons record of this year and has a wilfully contemporary relevance. Lead Single 'Look Like Me' is the first single to be released from the album, and is a relentlessly charming song with simplistic plucked violins and strong driving rhythm. McEvoy explains the concept of the song: "Look Like Me tells a tale of a less than confident outsider. Success in the music business suddenly faced me with other people's values. "They hired people to give me 'a look'. Even in the fashion magazines, fashion did not seem to be driven by the ones who wear the clothes. It's hard, you try and please people because you think standards are important, but ultimately it's not worth becoming self alienated to conform, I just want to look like me".
