The death occurred on 14th September last of Mr John (Johnny) Vesey, St Mary’s Park, Navan, peacefully at the Mater Hospital, Dublin, aged 95. A native of Flower Hill, Navan, he was predeceased by his wife Kathleen in 2003. Deceased was a founder member of the Eastern and subsequently the Southern Motor Cycle Unit of the Irish Army during the Second World War. By trade he was a master cabinet maker and he was also a part-time teacher in Meath VEC. Mr Vesey was foreman and manager of various manufacturing enterprises in Navan. His passion for his trade kept him from retiring until the age of 79 but his knowledge and skills were much sought after and he continued to work part-time until finally retiring at 83. Deceased enjoyed his retirement and continued to live at home in very good health until his 95th year when he moved to Millbury Nursing Home last March. He is survived by his family, Noel, Sean, and Deirdre Booty, all UK; Aidan, Eamonn and Brianan McAuley, all Navan; eight grandchildren; brother-in-law; son-in-law; daughters-in-law; nieces and nephews. The funeral took place from St Oliver’s Church, Navan to St Finian’s Cemetery. A months mind Mass will be held in St Oliver’s Church on Saturday 16th October at 7pm. ____________________________________________________________ Nora Conlon, Virginia Virginia solicitor Ms Nora Conlon passed away suddenly on Monday 27th September. A minute’s silence was observed at Virginia District Court, where tributes were paid to her. Ms Conlon was partner to Meath county councillor and Navan town councillor, Joe Reilly. Judge Sean MacBride said the untimely passing of Ms Conlon, a solicitor of great distinction, was very sad. Her passing left a void in the legal profession in Cavan. Ms Conlon was a lady, an exceptional solicitor, generous, humorous and highly talented, the judge added. She was very professional in her dealings with the court and was also a close advocate with the less well off. Martin Cosgrove, on behalf of his firm A B O’Reilly, said Nora came to work with them in 1995/96 and later decided to branch out on her own. Ms Conlon had a good and long working relationship with her colleague Rita Martin. Both of them set up practice in Virginia and they got on extremely well and helped each other out. They were never rivals and formed a great friendship. Ms Martin said she was in Virginia eight years and over that time they never had a cross word. Ms Conlon was a person of great intellect who worked very hard for her clients. She never sought the limelight and she was also very active in the community. Inspector Martin Beggy, on behalf the Gardaí, extended his sympathy to the family of Ms Conlon. Sympathy was also extended by Sinead O’Reilly on behalf of the Probation Service; Monica Clerkin on behalf of the District Court Office; and Michael Cryan on behalf of the press. Ms Conlon is survived by her sisters, brothers, partner, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. Her funeral took place from St Joseph’s Church, Drumkilly, Co Cavan, to the adjoining cemetery. Members of Meath County Council and Navan Town Council expressed sympathy with Cllr Reilly at their October meetings. ____________________________________________________________ Rosemary Marry, Dowth Widespread regret was occasioned following the death on 9th August last of Mrs Rosemary Marry, Dowth, Drogheda, aged 60, at her residence. A native of Donore, deceased was wife of the late Jack Marry, who passed away in December 2008. Deceased is survived by her sons, Gareth, Colin, Jonathan; daughters Shona, Clodagh, Nicole; brothers Francis, James, William, and John Gogarty; sisters, Jacinta and Kay, aunt, Kay and uncle, Jim; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews. The funeral took place from St Patrick’s Church, Slane to St Erc’s Cemetery, Slane. ____________________________________________________________ Patrick Cowley, Navan The death occurred on 23rd September last of Mr Patrick (Paddy) Cowley,Troytown Heights, Navan, peacefully at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, aged 80 years. Mr Cowley was a retired salesman. He had a lifelong interest in horseracing and was a devoted family man. Deceased is survived by his wife, Maureen; daughter, Eva McDonagh, Kempton, Navan Road, Dublin 7; son-in-law, Paul McDonagh; granddaughter, Nicola; grandsons, Peter, Killian and Tiernan; sisters, Ciss Acton and Joan Hennessy; sister-in-law Anne Cowley; nieces and nephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends. The funeral took place from St Olivers Church, Navan, to St Mary’s Cemetery, Navan on 25th September last.
