Meath’s managerial bandwagon just keeps on rolling along
The search for a new Meath senior football manager took another twist on Tuesday morning with the news that the Meath GAA Co Committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday night (3rd November) has been postponed for a week until Wednesday 10th November. It has been widely speculated that former Monaghan manager Seamus McEnaney and his team of Liam Harnan, Paul Grimley and Martin McElkennon would be recommended by the three-man interview committee of Barney Allen, Liam Keane and Joe Cassells to replace Eamonn O’Brien as Meath manager. Following an meeting of the Meath GAA executive on Monday night it was decided to postpone Wednesday night’s meeting because no decision had been made yet. “We have had to postpone this week’s meeting because we have not reached a decision about who will be recommended to the Co Committee as the next Meath manager,” Co Committee secretary Cyril Creavin told the Meath Chronicle on Tuesday. “We didn’t want to bring delegates to Navan for a meeting where nothing had been finalised and for that reason we rescheduled the meeting for Wednesday 10th November, where hopefully we will have a name to put forward then,” he added. McEnaney was expected to be recommended by the interview committee as the new manager ahead of a Gerry Cooney ticket that included Darren Fay, Finian Murtagh, Andy McEntee and John Coughlan. It has since become clear that some clubs were unhappy that they might not be allowed to discuss the matter. Creavin confirmed that the Executive Committee met on Monday night to discuss the issue, but he would not comment further on the outcome of the meeting. The Dunshaughlin official is hopeful that a candidate will be ready for next week’s meeting. If they can reach a consensus before then, the clubs will be informed before next Wednesday evening’s meeting. “To be fair to the clubs, they have to have a chance to discuss the name that will be recommended. If we have the name to put forward to the clubs in time then I have no doubt that they will have time to discuss it before the meeting on Wednesday 10th November,” said the secretary. “There are complications at the moment and management will have to meet again to discuss the situation. “There was a meeting last night and based on the conclusions of that meeting we had to postpone last night’s meeting until next Wednesday, hopefully it will be sorted by next Wednesday night,” concluded Creavin.
