Hospital campaign acknowledges support
Dear sir - Last Saturday week, between 10,000 and 12,000 people took to the streets of Navan in support of the continuation of services at Navan Hospital. It was the largest community display of support for the hospital ever in the county and it sent a powerful message to the decision makers in the HSE and this government that our hospital must remain open. Saturday would not have happened at all if it were not for the dedication and hard work of all the members of the campaign committee. Many put in 30 and 40 hour weeks voluntarily in the six weeks preceding the rally. Our sincere thanks go to these people. It saw the mobilisation of literally hundreds of community groups from the churches to sporting organisations, bands, political parties, unions, fair organisers, staff and businesses, each group brought hundreds of people out on the day. The Save Navan Hospital Campaign is indebted to these groups for their phenomenal help. Lastly, we want to thank all the individuals who made it on to the streets. There were people there in their late nineties who have had the support of the hospital at important stages of their lives. There were also a number of new born children in the crowd who hopefully will have a proper health service to lean on in their times of need too. As was said on the day this campaign is only getting started. We are determined that our hospital will remain fully functioning. I would like to invite each and every person in the county to get involved over the coming months. Go raibh míle míle maith agaibh go léir. Yours, Cllr Peadar Tóibín, Chairperson, Save Navan Hospital Campaign.
