Council needs to get priorities right
Dear sir - it was great to see the local council going to such efforts to clear the snow from Kennedy Place last week, going to the bother of actually removing it by truck from the area. How efficient of them to have the place cleared for shoppers and users of Kennedy Place. Then, I discovered that the big clean-up was to accommodate an appearance by Jedward, who apparently were turning on the town's Christmas lights. That is all very well, if anybody will be able to get into Navan from their homes in rural Meath, or indeed from other parts of Navan town where it is still treacherous to even go out on a path. While we cannot blame the council for the weather, we can blame it for the lack of response in ensuring that roads are safe to use by now, three weeks into the cold snap, with more to come. How they can even consider spending money on the nonsense last week, when the people of Meath are still stranded in their homes and there is an economic downturn and budget cutbacks being undertaken. I know I am not alone in my sentiments on this as it is the general feeling of anybody I have encountered. And I didn't see too many Christmas lights in the town this week, either. Yours, Maureen Malone, Bective Lodge, Kilmessan.
