Cash tribute show for St Stephen’s Night
The unique sounds and atmosphere once generated by the legendary Johnny Cash have been resurrected with such astonishing accuracy by the tribute band formed by two local Navan singers in his honour that they have become one of the classic recreation sets of its genre. Backed by an impressive stage set, flanked by two giant size screens with appropriate costume dress to embellish the atmosphere, the spirit of the country and western legend continues to live on with the five piece band that has taken the tribute scene by storm, and will appear in Navan on St Stephen's Night. Spawned by the McGarry brothers, Micheal and Seamus, regulars on the local music circuit where their popularity has grown extensively, the Johnny Cash tribute band has come off the back of the success of the hit movie that chronicled his life, times and sounds so brilliantly some years ago. Micheal captures the movement and vocals of the younger Cash a with impressive symmetry, belting out all the numbers that span an enduring career, while Seamus encapsulates Cash's chief sidekick Luther Perkins with his unique and raw sound on lead guitar. Joining them are some of country's most talented musicians, adding more local flavour. On drums Tony Smyth is one of the most recognised faces in the business with a long history of involvement with a variety of bands. Once a member of the renowned 'Bogey Boys', Tony has had stints with Ray Lynam, The Waterboys and Paul Cleary. On piano, Donal Norton has developed a reputation for his eclectic sound and is of the most adaptable musicians in the business. The final piece of the jigsaw is Dublin based Mike Smith on (stand-up) double bass rekindling the visual impact of such an instrument, a corner stone of the Cash glory days. During the night the Cash band will be joined by a special guest 'June Carter' to capture the magical dynamic that only Cash and Carter together could create. All the most recognisable Cash hits on an explosive two and a half hour set will feature. From 'Cry Cry Cry' to 'Folsom Prison Blues', 'Get Rhythm' to 'Ring of Fire' and 'A Boy Named Sue' to 'One Piece at a Time' and 'Jackson' the show moves through the various layers of Cash's much documented life at breakneck pace. They perform on Sunday night, 26th December, in the Newgrange Hotel, Navan, with doors open at 9pm and the show at 10pm followed by DJ till late. Admission is €10 and tickets are available from hotel reception.
