Man charged with manslaughter in Rathmolyon
A 29-year-old Polish national has appeared at Trim Court charged with the manslaughter of another Polish man at a house at Rathmolyon last Thursday. Mariusz Jarosz, with an address at Fitzherbert Wood, Navan, is charged with the unlawful killing of 25-year-old David Mazur at The Glebe, Cherryvalley, Rathmolyon, on 6th January. At Friday's sitting of Trim Court, Inspector Alf Martyn gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution. Inspector Martyn told the court that Gardai were objecting to bail on the grounds that Jarosz is a Polish national with no ties to the country. He said the accused has one child living here but is estranged from the child's mother, and also cited the seriousness of the charge and the potential to interfere with witnesses as reasons for objecting to bail. Solicitor Raymond Finnegan, acting for the accused, said Inspector Martyn's concerns could be addressed by way of bail conditions and said his client had been living at his Navan address for four months and was living in the Ireland for six years. Judge Patrick Clyne set bail in the defendant's own bond of €10,000 plus an independent surety of €20,000 to be approved of by the court and Gardai, of which €10,000 is to be lodged in court. Judge Clyne also made it a condition that the accused surrender his passport and travel ID and reside at the address given to Gardai and notify Gardai if his address changes. Other conditions included that he sign on daily at Navan Garda Station, observe a curfew between 10.30pm and 7.30am, have no contact with anyone connected to the proceedings, that he stay away from the Rathmolyon area and remain intoxicant-free. Free legal aid was granted and Jarosz was remanded in custody with consent to bail to appear again at Trim Court tomorrow (Thursday). Mr Mazur died in Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown, in the early hours of last Thursday morning after receiving stab injuries. Gardai were called to the house at Rathmolyon at around 1am. Two men, a 29 year-old and a 59 year-old, were arrested at the scene and detained at Navan and Trim Garda Stations under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. The 59-year-old man was released later that evening without charge. For the past two months, Mr Mazur had worked as a kitchen porter in the Station House Hotel, Kilmessan, where he was a popular member of staff. Thelma Slattery of the Station House Hotel said all the staff there were shocked and devastated to learn of Mr Mazur's death. “He was such a lovely guy, so quiet and very mannerly and polite. He was a joy to have in the kitchen. All the staff are devastated,†she said. Mrs Slattery said staff were due to have their Christmas Party on Monday night but postponed it. “We have quite a few of the Polish community working here who are all devastated and deeply shocked,†she added.
