Furious and distressed at state of our local roads
Dear sir - I am writing to let you know how livid I am about the state of the roads 'everywhere' in Meath. I have written to Meath County Council, as telephoning them seems to be a waste of time. I travel from Kells to Ashbourne on a daily basis and I can tell you no matter what route I take its a full time job trying to avoid the pot holes, so much so that it is going to get someone killed, as attention is so taken away from concentrating on driving. Yes, I am aware that the spell of bad weather has created extra potholes everywhere, but I can also tell you that there are the same reoccuring pot holes that come up time and time again that are nothing to do with the weather. For example, In Oristown, there is a patch of bad road there between the stone bridge and the bend before Oristown school in addition to a stretch of potholes that cannot be avoided if you are meeting a car. In Navan, from the railway line to the lights for the shopping centre, both sides of the road. This is going on for years. From Kells - Maudlin to Carlanstown. This especially makes me furious, as about six men spent a week repairing the two patches of pot holes outside the entrance to the housing estate at the bottom of Maudlin and ignored every other pothole that was not in that cluster. Not to mention the re-occuring stretch of potholes at Mullaghea. In the last 10 years every new house that was built had to contribute large sums of money to the council for the upkeep of the roads. For the amount of houses that has been built I image this is a particulary large amount of money. What has this been spent on? Also, I wonder what on earth are we paying motor/road tax for? I am so upset, frustrated and annoyed, with this situation. Last year I had five flat wheels due to potholes. Yesterday I hit three pot holes, that (a) I could not see in the dark and (b) I could not avoid. People cannot afford the repairs to cars, wheels, shocks and all the other things these road conditions have an affect on. It's bad enough that wages are going down and taxes are going up, without this stress. Yours, Aideen Fitzsimons, Kells.
