Nancy Farrelly, Lismullen
The passing of Mrs Nancy (Annie) Farrelly, Lismullen, Garlow Cross, Navan, at the age of 93 years, caused widespread sadness. She died in the loving care of her family at Knightfield Park, Dunsany, on 3rd February last, aged 93. A native of Gilltown, Beauparc, deceased was a daughter of the late Luke and Annie Smith, and was predeceased in 1986 by her husband, Richie Farrelly. She enjoyed life and lived it to the best of her ability, playing cards in O'Briens, Johnstown, and regularly attending bingo. She enjoyed the facilities of the Loreto Day Care Centre for 25 years and also looked forward to Sunday family gatherings. Mrs Farrelly is survived by her daughters, Ann Crocock, Dunsany, Ena Donnelly, Kilmessan, Gail Fitzsimons, Peterstown, Trim; sons, Thomas Farrelly, Garlow Cross, Declan Farrelly, Garlow Cross, their families, extended family, relatives and friends. The funeral took place from the Chuch of the Nativity, Johnstown, to the Hill of Tara cemetery. A month's memory Mass will take place on Friday 4th March at 7.30pm in Johnstown Church. ____________________________________________________________ George Devin, Dowth A quiet man who lived all of his life in Dowth, Drogheda, Mr George Devin was much loved and appreciated by his family, and his passing on 10th December last was a huge loss to them. Born in 1930 to James Devin and May Berrill, Mr Devin and his brothers Jimmy and Eddie grew up on the family farm, busy helping outdoors all the time. He attended school in the old Monknewtown national school, taught by Miss Woods and Miss Murphy. He then attended Drogheda CBS before returning to work on the farm. Deceased then worked for Lar McDonnell, Dowth, taking the salmon from the traps on the weir down on the Boyne River. With the archaeological interest growing in Newgrange and Knowth burial chambers, Mr Devin worked on the digs for years, in 'the caves' as they were referred to locally. There he worked alongside Professor Michael O'Kelly and Professor George Eoghan, gaining much insight into the creations of his neighbours some 5,000 years before. He would later share his knowledge with family and friends. After his stint at the digs, deceased returned to work full time on the farm, raising cattle and making hay, and always rearing poultry. Gaelic football was a great love and deceased played with Rossin in the 1960s, winning a number of honours along the way. Mr Devin also enjoyed horseracing on TV, or attending local meetings in Fairyhouse or Laytown. He loved dancing and regularly went to The Abbey Ballroom in Drogheda. Deceased followed news and current affairs daily on television and radio. He kept up to date with local happenings on LMFM and really enjoyed The Green Scene every Saturday. He enjoyed heading down to his local pub, Dolly Mitchell's for a pint of Guinness with friends. He had a great sense of humour and loved to see his cousin Mickey Berrill arrive to the house when the pair would have a great laugh telling stories and jokes. George celebrated his 80th birthday on 20th November last with a party at home in Dowth attended by friends and family. In good health all of his life until his last month, he took ill with pneumonia and died in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital on 10th December. Mr Devin was predeceased by his parents, James and May. He is survived by his brothers, Jimmy and Eddie, sisters-in-law, Bridie and Kathleen; nieces and nephews, Mary, Sean, Colm, Joanne, Joan and David; grandnieces and grandnephews, cousins, family and friends. Requiem Mass at the Church of the Assumption, Monknewtown, was celebrated by Fr Joe Deegan, PP, Slane. Burial followed in Dowth Cemetery. ____________________________________________________________ Mary Duffy, Navan There was widespread sadness following the death of Mrs Mary Duffy, St Mary's Park, Navan, and Woodlands House Nursing Home, Navan, in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, on 15th January last, aged 79. Mrs Duffy was predeceased by her husband, Ultan, in March 1994. Daughter of the late Joseph and Kathleen McKeown, she was a native of Kilberry, and moved to Navan in 1954 following marriage. Deceased will be remembered as a loving mother, sister, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt and a great friend to many. She has left everyone with wonderful memories that will be treasured forever. Mrs Duffy is survived by her sons Michael, Ferndale, Navan; Paul, Tara Glen Road, Navan; Ultan, Beaufort Place, Navan; Gary, St Mary's Park, Navan; daughters, Marie, London; Rosaleen, Ferndale, Navan; and Deborah, London; grandchildren; sisters, Kathleen Timmons, Kilberry; Josie Kelly, Kildalkey; Cepta Carrie, Kilberry; Anne Curtis, Balrath; brother, John, Toronto, Canada; daughters-in-law, son-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Following removal from her home, the funeral Mass took place in St Mary's Church, Navan with burial afterwards in St Mary's Cemetery, Navan, celebrated by Fr Declan Hurley, Adm, Navan. A month's memory Mass will take place on Saturday 26th February in St Mary's Church, at 6pm. ____________________________________________________________ Molly Daly, Enfield The regretted death occurred on 3rd February last of Ms Molly Daly, Ballycarn, Enfield, at St Camillus Nursing Centre, Killucan, in her 98th year. A native of Ballycarn, Enfield, Miss Daly worked for many years with Dr Corbett in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, but returned home in 1965 to look after her ill mother until she passed away in 1970. She then worked in the Maghera Bawn Hotel in Enfield for some years before opening up her own bed and breakfast business in the late seventies. Ms Daly loved to knit and knitted hundreds of socks for the missions. Her favourite song was 'The Valley of Slieve na mBán'. Deceased loved gardening and would spend hours in her garden. Miss Daly also loved animals, dogs and cats, and had three goats. Deceased is survived by brothers, Bill Daly, Ballycarn, Enfield, Patsy Daly, Finglas, Dublin; sister-in-law, Josie Daly, Finglas, Dublin, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, extended family and friends. The funeral took place on Sunday 6th February from The Church of the Assumption, Jordanstown, Enfield, to the adjoining cemetery. ____________________________________________________________ Mary O'Connor, Trim There was widespread of sadness following the passing on 30th January last of Mrs Mary O'Connor, Avondale, Trim, at Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown, Dublin. Mrs O'Connor was born Mary Cotter to Patrick and Mary Cotter, a farming family, at Lyreacrompane, Co Kerry on 23rd April 1923. She married the late Brian O'Connor on 14th February 1945. They farmed at Knocknagoshel until 1969 when they moved to Sutherland, Ratoath. Deceased farmed with her husband there and cared for him in his later years when he was in ill health until his death in 1977. Mrs O'Connor loved farming and gardening. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker. Her neighbours and community were very important to her and she enjoyed her weekly bingo in Curraha and Kilmoon. Deceased moved to Dunshaughlin in the 1980s after she retired from farming and joined the senior citizens' Friday Morning Club where she enjoyed painting and writing short stories for the clubs's 'Long-Ago Book' series. That led to writing more stories which she compiled into 'Growing Up In The South In The 1920s And 30s'. She made many wonderful friendships at the club and had many memorable holidays and outings with them. She was also delighted with opportunities to go to Lourdes and Knock. In 2003, she moved to Trim where she made more good friends, both in the community and at St Joseph's Day Care Centre where she regularly attended. She will be remembered with affection by all who were fortunate to know her. She was a deeply religious lady who listened to local Mass on church radio each day. She was predeceased by her daughter Elizabeth (Lil) Lane in 1984, her sisters Julia Tehan, Hannah 0'Connor and Ellen (Nellie) Sheehy and her brothers William and Denis. Mrs O'Connor is survived by her son, John; daughters, Catherine King, Trim, Josephine Smyth, Dublin, Sheila, Trim, sister, Nora Cotter, Kerry, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces relatives and friends. She reposed at her home until removal to St Patrick's Church, Trim, where her funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr Sean Henry, assisted by Fr Mark Mohan. She was laid to rest beside her husband Brian in St Andrew's Cemetery, Curraha, where her remains were received by Fr Phil Gaffney. A months memory Mass will be held in St Patrick's Church, Trim on Sunday 27th February at 12.30pm. ____________________________________________________________ Noreen Joyce, Kilmessan and Galway The funeral took place in Kilmessan on Sunday of Mrs Noreen Joyce, of Ross View, Rosscahill, Co Galway, a member of the Carolan family of Kilmessan. Mrs Joyce (60) passed away after a long illness, at University Hospital, Galway, on Thursday of last week. Daughter of the late Nora and Tommy Carolan, she is survived by her husband, Micheal Joyce; daughters, Helen and Eimear; sisters, Margaret, Dolores, Cecilia, Teresa and Angela; brothers, Liam and Oliver; aunts, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and neighbours. The funeral took place from the Church of the Nativity of Our Lady, Kilmessan, to the adjoining cemetery. Family flowers only by request. Donations, if desired, to Cancer Care West. ____________________________________________________________ Geoff Connolly, Navan There was widespread shock and sadness following the recent untimely death of Mr Geoff Connolly, Claremont, Navan, at the age of 41. Son of the late Andy and Elizabeth Connolly, he is survived by his sister, Mary; brothers, Alex, Sean, Andy and Joe; sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends. The funeral took place on 22nd January last from St Mary's Church to St Mary's Cemetery. A month's memory Mass was offered in St Oliver's Church, Blackcastle, on Sunday last.
