Double joy for Elliott at Cheltenham
Trim-based trainer Gordon Elliott landed a dream double on day two of the Cheltenham festival when Chicago Grey landed the opening race and Carlito Brigante romped home in the Coral Cup. Chicago Grey triumphed in the opening race when Derek O'Connor gave a superb performance in the saddle, and the horse, whose jumping had been questioned prior to the race, leaped magnificently round the Prestbury Park course to land the spoils at 5-1. Elliott's day got even better when Davy Russell partnered Carlito Brigante to win the Coral Cup at 16-1. There were successes for two Meath jockeys at Prestbury Park on Tuesday. It was a great day for Ashbourne jockey Andrew Lynch as he rode Sizing Europe to victory in the prestigious Queen Mother Champion Chase. Lynch had ridden the same horse to victory at last year's festival in the Arkle Chase and gave the horse an excellent ride to defeat the heavily fancied Big Zeb. Moynalvey's Robbie Power brought Jessica Harrington's Bostons Angel home first in the RSA Chase, at odds of 16/1, and Dunsany owner Chris Jones again experienced Cheltenham success when Paul Townend scored his first festival win on What A Charm, for trainer Arthur Moore.
