All eyes on Aintree
Adrian Maguire will this weekend be attempting to do something he never did as a jockey - win an Aintree Grand National. The Kilmessan jockey-turned-trainer has his first runner in the Liverpool event - also his first runner in Britain - after Golden Kite made it in at number 40. His entry is at the expense of another Meath trainer, as Tony Martin didn't declare Northern Alliance. However, there is still remarkable Meath interest in the Aintree event, which takes place at 4.15pm on Saturday, with Summerhill-native trainer Martin Lynch saddling Oscar Time for the Cheltenham Gold Cup winning team of Robert and Sam Waley-Cohen. Ashbourne jockey Andrew Lynch is on board Dessie Hughes' Vic Venturi, with Ratoath siblings Paul and Nina Carberry on Gordon Elliott's Backstage and John Quinn's Character Building respectively. Drumree's Barry Geraghty will ride Or Noir De Somoza after Tom Scudamore dislocated his shoulder in a fall from The Giant Bolster in the Mildmay Novices' Chase on Friday, and Moynalvey's Robbie Power is on Killyglen. Adrian Maguire's nephew, Jason, subject of an injury scare when he fell from Palawi at Aintree on Thursday, is scheduled to ride Donald McCain's Ballabriggs.
