Resource Centre fundraiser the first of many
Kells People's Resource Centre ran a very successful market and car boot sale last weekend, the first in a series of monthly sales planned for over the summer. The purpose of the event was to raise funds to support the activities of the resource centre as well as promoting the entrepreneurial spirit in local people and community groups. The Resource Centre project co-ordinator Angela Murphy said: "The market and car boot sale is an excellent opportunity for the community of Kells to come together to help each other and an enjoyable day for the whole family is guaranteed. The glorious weather also helped to make it a very pleasant day for everyone." Saturday's stall-holders included families and budding traders with a range of products from bric-a-brac and outgrown toys to handmade knitwear and jewellery. Visitors to the market were able to enjoy a BBQ lunch and a cup of tea. The children enjoyed the bouncy castle and competitively priced goodies, while many enjoyed having their fortunes told by 'Mystic Mick'. The entrepreneurial Matthews family, who have taken a positive self-help approach in these challenging times, were selling a range of children's toys and other bric-a-brac items. Niamh Matthews, whose family also enjoys working together on their community allotment at Loyd, said: "We were delighted that the children had an opportunity to make a little extra cash towards their summer activities while helping the resource centre at the same time." Chairperson of Kells People's Resource Centre, Pat Barron, said: "The resource centre greatly appreciates the support it has received from the people of Kells. We are encouraging local community groups to take a stall to fundraise for their group. If anyone is raising funds for charity, this is an ideal opportunity." More stalls are available for future events. To book, contact Angela by email at kellsresourcecentre@gmail.com or call (046) 924 7161.
