Shield win for Electro Celtic
Electro Celtic posed too many questions for a gallant Skryne/Tara side in the NECSL u-12 Shield final at the MDL on Saturday afternoon. Wind-assisted Electro took an early grip on the game and had a goal on the scoreboard inside two minutes when Aidan Shields made the breakthrough with a fine effort which gave Michael Carolan no chance between the posts. Skryne/Tara battled with great determination against the elements, but were opened up again before the break when Shields added a vital second goal. The Skryne/Tara players made a great effort after the resumption and laid siege to the Electro penalty area in the closing stages, but without any reward. Frankie Carty had a couple of shots on target and both Robbie Clarke and Jason Reddy worked hard to make openings. However, Electro were well organised at the back with Thomas Murtagh particularly impressive while Sarah Bradley was strong at midfield. Electro were always dangerous on the break with Shiels going close on a couple of occasions, but Carolan made some good saves which kept his side in contention.
