60 youngsters tread boards for theatre school's show
Plenty of talent can be expected in the Kells Theatre School's 10th annual production, which will feature over 60 children from Kells and the surrounding areas in a spectacular show next Sunday at 8pm in the St Vincent De Paul Theatre. The production will include three mini-musicals, 'Aladdin And His Magic Lamp', 'The Fairies And The Goblins' and 'The Aliens have Landed'. There will also be singing and dancing to hit songs such as 'Waterloo', 'River Deep, Mountain High', 'A Whole New World' and a medley of hit songs from the movies. The mini-musicals will also feature lots of songs and dances and a host of great characters to keep everyone entertained. The children aged between seven to 14 years have been busy in their weekly workshops of drama, dance, singing, and creative story-telling since last October and now their great moment has arrived when they will display their talents on stage. Another feature of the school is the publication of a book of stories written by the students. This concept has generated great enthusiasm among the children. They have been very creative in their writing, said Gaye Grant, who was in charge of this project. Artistic director John Grant is looking forward to the performances and said that all the students have worked very hard over the year and deserve great, supportive attendances. The students will receive their certificates of completion at the performance from special guest of honour, Cllr Conor Ferguson, cathaoirleach of Kells Town Council. Brian O'Neill will provide the lighting for the show, while Kathleen McGovern is responsible for songs and Helena Sheridan has choreographed the dance routines. Kevin McLoughlin will keep the show moving with all the effects and Gary Byrne is looking after sound. Alan Grant, Vinnie Ginnity, Pat Byrne, Shane McLoughlin, Karen Donlan and Alice Mulvany will be working behind the scenes to ensure a smooth running order. Sunday's show promises a feast of great entertainment provided by talented young people. Special admission prices are adults €8 and children €5.
