Parkvilla wrap up the silverware
Parkvilla rounded off a memorable season in the Meath & District League when they won the Reserve Cup for the first time with a lone goal victory over the holders, Woodview Celtic from Dundalk, at the MDL on Saturday evening. They richly deserved their victory as they carved out a number of clear-cut chances and on another day may have won more convincingly. The early exchanges were even and only for a superb save by Jack Walsh, the Louth side would have taken the lead. Moments later Paudge McLoughlin went close for the Navan side, but Woodview had lots of possession in the opening half. The Louth men were unable to make any headway against a soild Parkvilla rearguard in which James Power was outstanding. It was his brother John who played a central role in the only goal of the game when he carved the opening and McLoughlin close to the interval. Shortly after the restart Gavin Boyle set McLoughlin up, but he was denied by a fantastic save by the loser's custodian. Then Boyle went on a mazy run before he unleashed a fierce shot which test the quality of the woodwork. Best for the winners in a great team performance were Boyle, James Power, Stephen Gough and Patrick Connors. Parkvilla - J Walsh; J McGarry, C Kennedy, S Gough, J Power, M Brady, M Power, P Connors, G Boyle, J Power, P McLoughlin. Sub - M Hand for Boyle. Parkvilla also completed their Leinster Senior League Div 1A schedule at the weekend when they were edged out by the odd goal in five against CYM. Ciaran Rogers and Gary McCrossan scored for the Navan side, but they eased off and were punished by the Dubliners. However, the big positive for the progressive Navan club were the performances of Conor Chaney and Dean Hosie, both sampling the LSL for the first time this season as they progress from the schoolboy ranks. And the schoolboys section of the club also enjoyed some success last week when they won the NECSL u-14 Cup with a 2-0 victory over Kells/Blackwater. The goals were scored by Chris O'Neill from a penalty and Eoghan Breathnach who headed home from Dylan McMahon's corner. Parkvilla also captured the NECSL u-13 Shield with a penalty shoot-out success against Johnstown. Darren Kavanagh, Sean Lally-Starrs and Eoghan Prior converted from the spot for a 3-2 verdict after the sides shared two goals in normal time. The u-12 Premier Shield also made its way to Claremont Stadium as Parkvilla recorded a comfortable win over Trim Celtic with goals from Conor Brennan (four), Dylan Hand (two) and Fionn Rogers.
