Seeking relatives of Mary Bridget Quinn
Dear sir - I am desperately looking for any information about surviving relatives of my maternal grandmother, Mary Bridget Quinn, born 1910, Navan, County Meath, who lived at 4 Limekiln Hill, Navan. She died of toxemia aged 33 on 5th April 1944 at 2 Hill Street, Dundalk. She is buried in Haggardstown Church, Dundalk. She was married to Henry (Harry) Lee and had six children - Peter, Bridget (Breda - my mother), Thomas, Noel, Harry and Gerard (Gerry) - all of whom are still alive apart from Thomas, who died of cancer on April 28th 2008. All of the surviving children (in their late 60s and 70s) apart from Harry, now live in the UK. Her parents were Thomas Quinn and Bridget Quinn and she had (from what can be remembered) two brothers - one of who was called Patrick Joseph Quinn, around five years her senior and who would have been born in approximately 1906. Another child apparently died whilst very young around 1908/09. Her younger brother may have been called Michael, but this is by no means certain and at least one of her brothers continued to live in Navan until around 10-15 years ago (when an uncle found a house via someone at the local pub, but there was no-one in) and if still alive would be well into his 90s today. When she died, my grandfather was understandably grief-stricken, re-married 18 months later and never spoke about what happened, so piecing things together has been tricky. It's possible that when they married, Mary's parents stopped talking to her, but this is not certain and there is a recollection of one of her brothers coming to visit her and the children and bringing a gift back in the early 1940s/late 1930s. All the research I've done continually brings up the road name Limekiln Hill and Limekiln Street in Navan - going back as far as the Griffiths Valuations. I believe that at least one of her brothers had children and that there are currently children and grandchildren from this era who will very likely know more details about what happened and - most importantly - might have a photograph of Mary Bridget Quinn, which my mother dearly would like to have - as Mary bore six children (she was likely to have been pregnant at the time of her death too) and there is so very little known about her. My mother recalls seeing a photo of her, but does not know who owned it or when. She recalls her as having shoulder length dark hair and was holding the oldest child, Peter, in the photograph. Any help would be really really appreciated. Yours, Mark Conlon. mark@matchboxpr.co.uk (0044) 7751 093 096
