The death of Mrs Patricia (Pat) Beggy, St Brigid's Villas, Navan, on 20th June last, was the source of widespread regret. Aged 66, she passed away at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan. Deceased was a native of Sallynoggin, Co Dublin, where she was a keen camogie player with St Mary's Camogie Club. A qualified cook and seamstress, her hobbies included gardening, art, restoring furniture, music and poetry. She was a member of St Mary's Musical Society, Navan; Navan Pitch and Putt Club; and Navan Athletic Club. Mrs Beggy was a volunteer for Meath Women's Aid and founder member of Teach Dochas centre for women and children at Dalgan Park, Navan. Mrs Beggy was married to Thomas Beggy, and is survived by her daughter, Trisha Power; son-in-law, Mark; grandsons, Jason and Dylan, Abbeygrove, Navan; brothers, Joe, Sallynoggin, Noel, Kilpedder, Co Wicklow; sisters, Christina, Melbourne, Australia; lifelong friend, Mary Ducie, St Brigid's Villas, Navan; Thomas Beggy, Windtown, Navan, extended family and friends. The funeral took place from St Mary's Church to Glasnevin Crematorium. A month's memory Mass takes place on Saturday 6th August in St Mary's Church, Navan, at 10am. ____________________________________________________________ Jane Cahill, Grange Bective The sudden death of Mrs Jane Cahill (79) of Grange Bective, Navan, at the Mater Hospital, Dublin, came as a shock to family, friends and neighbours. Deceased was a native of Bective and a member of the Flanagan family. Mrs Cahill and her husband Tommy Cahill had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, on 10th June last. She had a keen interest in gardening, always tending to her flower beds, and was well known in her locality, particularly as a supporter of Bective GFC. A very family-orientated person, Mrs Cahill will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her loving family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She is survived by husband, Tommy; sons, Paddy, Gerry, Dom, David, John, Dessie, Brian, Mark, Paul and Stephen; daughter, Martina; daughters-in-law; son-in-law; 31 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brother Tommy Flanagan; nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by brother, Paddy. The funeral took place from St Mary's Church, Navan, to Cannistown Cemetery. A month's memory Mass takes place on Sunday 31st July in Mary's Church at 11am. ____________________________________________________________ Kevin A Carroll, Athboy There was widespread sadness following the death on 24th June last of Mr Kevin A Carroll, 'Ardeevin', Athboy, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. Aged 88, he was a native of Athboy. Deceased was a retired retailer and auctioneer, and would today be described as an entrepreneur, working as a farmer, fruit grower, supplier of seeds and fertilisers, sweets manufacturer and many other activities throughout his life. He was holder of hurling medal from his days with the Athboy GAA Club, and was a member of Headfort Golf Club and the Grocers' Golfing Society. Mr Carroll was a founding member of Athboy Society of St Vincent de Paul. Music was a big part of his life. He was a very active and loyal member of the Athboy Church Choir until his death. Many years ago he was involved in the 'Athboy Antics' and even recruited some of his older children to participate in inter-community talent competitions. Kevin Carroll is survived by his wife, Blathnaid; family, Yvonne Gorman, Patricia Wood, Kevin, Edmond, Michael, Joe, Andrew, Bláthnaid Lane Walsh, Martin, and Annette McGrath; sister, Carmel Dennehy; sons-in-law; daughters-in-law; 33 grandchildren; three great grandchildren, sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; and family friend Josie Kelly. The funeral took place from St James's Church, Athboy, to St James' Cemetery. A month's memory Mass will take place in St James' Church on Sunday 24th July at 11.30am. ____________________________________________________________ Jacqui Carter, Collinstown It was with immense sadness that her community heard of the death of Mrs Jacqui Carter (née Wall) of Glenidan, Collinstown, Co Westmeath on 17th May last. She passed away at the Mater Hospital, Dublin following a courageous and dignified fight with cancer. Deceased was born in November 1966 in Shanagolden, Limerick. As a small child she went to England with her family and began primary school there. In 1977, the family returned to Ireland and to Crossakiel and she finished her primary education at Ballinlough NS before progressing to St Oliver's Post Primary School in Oldcastle. Having completed her secondary level education and a secretarial course, deceased became employed in the Headfort Arms Hotel, Kells as a receptionist. She also worked at P&C Whitelaw and Hand Imaging in Mullingar. After completing a PLC in business studies, she found employment in the Health Centre, Oldcastle working as a medical secretary with Dr William Hanley, a job which suited her sunny disposition and a job which she loved and trained hard for. She remained in this position until her untimely death. Mrs Carter dedicated her life to her daughters, Emma and twins Niamh and Aine. Her great love for them meant that she immersed herself in her community, building for them a great life, where they participated in many activities including drama, art and camogie. This commitment meant that she was always the first to volunteer to help, whether it was at fundraising, being on the school's board of management, starting a school book scheme, organising lifts or just having a hot flask of coffee Always proud of her family, Mrs Carter was delighted when her father, Phil Wall, was made honorary president of Kells Motorbike Club last year. Deceased was great fun and was always ready to bring humour and laughter to any situation. She will be remembered for her great smile and her willingness to extend the warmth of her friendship to everyone she met. She was a true and loyal friend to all who knew her. She bore her brief illness with the same positive, resolute determination that she used in every other part of her life. It was this positive outlook alongside her strong faith that provided her solace and comfort in her final months. She is survived by her husband, John; daughters, Emma, Niamh and Áine; mother, Vera; father, Phil; sister, Mary; mother-in-law, Betty; brothers-in-law, Brendan, Des and Martin; sisters-in-law, Mags and Ita; nephews Ian, Edward, Stephen and Darragh; relatives, wide circle of friends and neighbours. The funeral Mass Requiem at St Mary's Church was celebrated by Fr Michael Walsh, Fr Oliver Devine, Monsignor Hanley and Fr Ray Kelly, followed by burial in St Mary's Cemetery, Collinstown. ____________________________________________________________ Philip Daly, Batterstown The death occurred on 16th June last of Mr Philip Daly, Green Grove, Batterstown, peacefully at his residence. Mr Daly was the second eldest of the family of eight of Thomas and Bridget Daly, of Maio, Moynalty, and later of Scurlogstown, Trim, where he farmed for a period prior to marriage in 1960 to Mary Diviney of Green Grove, where deceased continued to farm. He is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Dermot; daughter, Rena; brothers Fr Michael V, Navan, and Matt, Scurlogstown; sisters, Sr Peter, Navan, Agnes McGearty, Ballivor, and Carmel Bond, Surrey, England; daughter-in-law; son-in-law; grandchildren; brothers-in-law; extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his sisters, Josephine (Finney) Lynch and Teresa Daly. A month's memory Mass takes place in the Church of the Assumption, Batterstown, on Friday 22nd July, at 8pm. ____________________________________________________________ Maurice Lee, Carnaross The death ocurred on 27th June last of Mr Maurice Lee, Curragh, Carnaross, aged 82. A native of Limerick, he is survived by his wife, Breda, brothers and sisters; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews. The funeral took place from St Ciaran's Church to Holy Family Cemetery, Carnaross. ____________________________________________________________ Patrick Sherlock, Navan There was great sadness over a wide area at the recent death of Mr Patrick Sherlock, Gainstown, Navan at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, at the age of 81. Deceased was a native of Gainstown and a member of an old Meath family. Son of the late William and Teresa Sherlock (nee Lawlor), he was also predeceased by his four sisters, Jeannette, Marie, Bridie and Tessie. He was a much loved husband and devoted father to his wife and family. A well known wool merchant and cattle dealer, deceased was a founder member of the Navan branch of Macra na Feirme. A sociable man, he had many friends, especially in the farming community and had a great sense of humour. He was well known among the wool dealers in Bradford, England. In his later years, he had failing health and entered Millbury Nursing Home in March this year. On his 81st birthday, 23rd June, he was moved to Our Lady's Hospital, where he died on Monday 4th July. Mr Sherlock is survived by his wife, Monica; sons William, Brisbane, Australia, John, Gainstown; daughters, Mary, Canterbrook, Navan, Ita, London; grandchildren, Fiona and Colm Sherlock, Woodlands, Navan; nephews, Ben and Martin Gough and niece, Ann Reid. Fr Declan Hurley officiated at his funeral Mass in St Mary's Church, Navan and the burial took place in St Mary's Cemetery.
