Obituaries 13-08-11
The funeral takes place in Bohermeen today (Wednesday) of Mr Michéal Murtagh, Faughan Hill, who died on Sunday, aged 69, having been ill for some time. His family includes the leading flat jockey, Johnny (JP) Murtagh. Mr Murtagh was a member of one of Bohermeen's oldest families, and will be remembered as a hard-working, unassuming and quiet man. He worked in the steel erecting and steel fixing industry, in England and Ireland. Among these construction sites was the cement factory at Platin in Drogheda, where he carried out steel fixing. He also worked with Conatys, erecting agricultural and other sheds across the county, and many of the buildings that stand today on farmlands around Meath were erected by him and his colleagues. He had worked for a period at Navan Steel Products. He was a humble man who was delighted to see his son, Johnny, doing so well in the world of racing. He didn't go racing, or bet on JP, saying it would bring bad luck on his son's runners, but he always took great pride in representing the jockey at awards ceremonies where his son was being recognised for his talents. Mr Murtagh is deeply regretted by his wife, Sheila; son John; daughters, Sinéad and Louise; partner Marie; brothers; sister; grandchildren; extended family, relatives and his special circle of friends. He is reposing at Faughan Hill, with removal on Wednesday at 11.30am, to arrive in St Ultan's Church, Bohermeen, for 12 noon mass, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. Family flowers only are requested, with donations, in lieu, to Irish Cancer Society, if desired. ____________________________________________________________ Tom Farrell, Trim There was widespread sadness following the death on 30th July last of Mr Tom Farrell, Clonfane, Trim, at the age of 72 years, at home in the care of his family. Deceased was a keen GAA supporter and loyally followed the fortunes of the Mayo football team. There was nothing he enjoyed more in later years than walking the Porchfields along the Boyne in Trim, contemplating semi-retirement. He had a good sense of humour and will be sadly missed by his family. Mr Farrell is survived by his wife, Maureen; daughters, Veronica, Fiona, Denise, Terena and Dolores; sister, Imelda; brother, John (Australia); sons-in-law, Dominic, Dermot, Michael and Kieran; grandchildren, Gavin, Brandon, Adrian and Rhiannon; extended family; friends and neighbours. Mrs Lee devoted her life to her children and in later years her grandchildren, Stacey, Jamie, Kim, Lauren, Eva and Cian. She was a kindhearted woman who always had a cheerful hello for everyone she met. In later years her illness meant that she could not be out and about as much as she liked. She loved nothing more than backing a few horses and watching rugby and the soaps on television. She had two dogs, Mick and Buster whom she treated like babies. She welcomed her son-in-law, Tony, and daughter-in-law, Carmel, into her family many years ago and enjoyed many happy times with them. She was a beautiful, warmhearted and generous lady who never complained despite her illness and who will always be remembered for her wonderful smile, and will be sadly missed by family and friends. The funeral took place from St Patrick's Church, Trim, to St Loman's Cemetery.
