Get Up to Dublin for John and Jupe's single launch

Jupe, which includes John Byrne from Nobber, will launch their new single 'Get Up' with a gig in The Academy 2, Middle Abbey Street, Dublin on Saturday 17th September. John plays bass and Tim Night from Dublin is the singer, Phil Costello from Dublin the guitarist and drummer is Brendon Rennie from Johannesburg, South Africa. They are an originals band, writing their own material which is a mixture of funk, pop and rock music. The single 'Get Up' will be released independently by the band. "We recorded 'Get Up' in Sun Studios in Temple Bar", says John. "The vibe and the atmosphere was really cool there, and it really helped get us into an artistic and funky state of mind! Sun Studios is part of the same family of studios as Grouse Lodge where we recorded songs for an album". He adds: "We worked closely with producer Lance Hogan, a well-established producer and musician on the Irish scene. Lance helped us out so much on this project, performing the producer role, as well as the mixing. When he came on board, he had so many cool and fresh ideas of where he heard the song being taken. It's always a great experience to work with professionals at his level, it really helps us raise our game and make the best music possible". John describes the song as a" truly a modern day anthem for leaving behind the world we have all experienced; the world through which you walk in a daze, and take every moment for granted. The underlying message is that you can break free from the rut, and live according to your own terms, by living a life of your own design! "Musically, the song is a modern pop, soft rock belter, with lead guitar hooks that grab you from the word go! The bass & drums are quite funky in their rhythm, and the rhythm guitar holds the entire track together!" They are finalising the artwork for the single, and the music video has already been shot, featuring model Aoife Hogan. "We tried to make the video as funky and comedic as possible, and we think everyone is going to really dig it," John explains. "We had an awesome team working with us, including Mike Foott who drew up the script, and upcoming director Simon Keenan in the director's chair telling us all what to do! It was the first time any of us had ever even dreamed of acting, and we all seemed to fall quite naturally into our roles. Guitarist Phil Costello humorously adds that this is especially so of the bands' drummer Brendon; of whom he states "the acting bug has already bitten quite badly, now all he talks about is how many Oscars he's going to win this time next year!" A few months ago, the band recently recorded songs for a new album at Grouse Lodge Studios in Westmeath with two time Grammy Award winning Los Angeles producer Bob Cutarella. The new single was recorded at a recent session. "We're going to release a couple more singles between now and next summer, while simultaneously deciding on which tracks will form the album. We've already got so much material recorded, the trickiest part is trying to pick amongst all our favourite songs! What makes it even trickier is that all the new songs we write keep getting better and better! Lead guitarist Phil has so many cool new guitar riffs that we haven't even fully explored yet, so the next couple of months are going to be mind-blowing in terms of what we will create!" John adds that Get Up differs from the sings recorded earlier this year. "The album tracks have quite a different vibe; it was about creating a mood, or an atmosphere, perfect for movie soundtracks, whereas this single is more of a catchy, dancing track". On the writing of the music, John says that "every Jupe song is written differently, it's hard to describe our process. With this particular song, our singer Tim had a specific theme he wanted to convey. Tim also had the initial guitar chord pattern in mind. With the chord pattern, and the theme in mind, each band member contributed to the track how he felt best. The drums, bass and lead guitar really came together to underline Tim's initial concept, and take it to where he had visualised. Singer Tim Night adds jokingly that: "John wanted a 20 minute slap bass solo in the middle of the song, but the other guys said no. I can't understand why!" Last month, Jupe supported Bobby Kimball, the lead singer of Toto with Irish band Shadowplay, at a gig in the Sugar Club, Dublin. Tickets for the Dublin gig, 9pm on Saturday 17th, are available on www.ticketmaster.ie as well as all usual outlets. The video will be launched on youtube the same week, with updates on the band's facebook page.
