McEnaney waiting for green light
On the provision that he gets the backing of the Co Committee delegates at next Monday night's meeting at Aras Tailteann, Meath senior football manager Seamus McEnaney (pictured) expects it to be a case of 'all systems go' despite the departure of selector Paul Grimley who has returned to his native Armagh. Grimley was Joe Kernan's right hand man when Armagh won the All-Ireland SFC nine years ago and was tipped to take over the reins with the county when Kernan stood down. However, when that didn't happen Grimley moved to Cavan and then to Kildare where he was part of Kieran McGeeney's management team before linking up with McEnaney in Monaghan. The duo moved to take over from Eamonn O'Brien and his management team in November 2010, but now Grimley has decided to return to his native county to assist Armagh manager Paddy O'Rourke. "This news came up on us fairly quickly, but I can totally understand Paul's decision," McEnaney told the Meath Chronicle this week. "When the lure of his home county came calling it was difficult for him to turn it down. It would have been his intention to come back with me for next year, but I totally understand his decision," added McEnaney. "Paul was a great presence in the dressing room and is a very very good football coach. He is the type of fellow you would always want to have around you, but I can fully understand his decision to return to Armagh. "The decision will help compact my own management team. Marty McElkennon is still with me. He was football coach with me in Monaghan for 2007, 2008 and 2009 and he was football coach with Cavan for three years before that so he has great experience and it will mean reshuffling the decks a wee bit. "We will bring another Meath selector on board, but as of yet that person is unidentified and we'll let everyone know as soon as the position is ready to be filled,"concluded McEnaney.
