Alzheimer's Awareness Evening in Trim
The Meath branch of the Alzheimer's Society is hosting an Alzheimer's Awareness evening at Trim Castle Hotel on Wednesday next, 28th September, at 8.30pm. The meeting is for those who want to know more about Alzheimer's disease, dementia or who are worried about their own memory loss or that of a family member. Key speakers on the night will be Dr Bill Bourke, a consultant physician in geriatric medicine, and Elaine Byrne, solicitor, who will speak on financial and legal matters. Information will be available on homecare packages and day care. Personnel from the HSE also will be in attendance. The meeting is open to all and admission is free. A new brochure will be launched on the night with information on all services in the county. The Alzheimers Society works at the heart of the local community providing a nework of support services in Meath. The Whistlemount Day Care Centre ouside Navan provides specialist care to meet the needs of people with dementia. The centre provides care and stimulation for the person with dementia and a break for family care-givers. It is fully staffed with a qualified nurse/manager and carers who are fully trained in providing dementia specialist care. At the moment, 45 clients avail of the service. Transport is provided throughout the county on a daily basis with a driver and carer and is fully wheelchair accessible. The Whistlemount Day Care Centre also offers a support group for family carers in Meath. This service is available twice monthly on the first Tuesday at 8pm and the first Thursday at 11am. The Alzheimers Society of Ireland provides a confidential helpline service from Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm on 1800 341 341.
