Galway man supporting Meath for another year
Galway native Luke Comer has signed up for another term to support the Royal County and will be hoping that it will be a case of third time lucky when the footballers set out on what could be a rocky road to Dublin's Croke Park next year. The Dunboyne businessman told the Meath Chronicle on Sunday night that he had made an offer to Meath GAA Co Committee and was waiting for a resposne. The Comer Group took over the role of football team sponsor for an initial two years starting in 2010 after Seamus Ross of Menolly Homes ended his backing of the boys in green and gold in 2009. The Co Committee response was communicated to the Comer Group by Monday and treasurer Pat Clerkin informed the delegates that the same sponsor would be on board for 2012 after successful negotiations were completed. "I'm very pleased to have worked with Luke and Brian Comer over the last two years and can now confirm that they will be on board with us again for 2012," stated Clerkin. "It took a while to get the matter sorted out, but we got there eventually," said Co Committee chairman Barney Allen. Simonstown Gaels delegate Gerry Fitzpatrick queried if arrangements were in place to cater for sponsors and officials in Pairc Tailteann properly. "Have you reserved places for sponsors in the car park and the stand," asked Fitzpatrick. "We always keep places for sponsors and we will try to allocate extra seating in the stand," replied the chairman who went on to suggest that problems this year at the Galway game at Pairc Tailteann was due to Croke Park allocating too many VIP passes. "We only have 28 spaces for guests and Croke Park issued 60 passes," said the chairman who also confirmed that an application had been made to Meath Co Council for planning permission for Áras Tailteann.
