Memories of Christmas past
Dear sir - Whitewashed walls, killing the goose, wren boys, turkey markets - are these just some of your readers' memories of Christmas past? If so the over 55s website Golden Ireland would like to hear from you. Older people in Ireland are invited to participate in the 'Memories of Christmas Past' competition and recount their favourite memories of Christmas time of old. Entries are coming in for this year's competition from all over the country. These stories from the 1940s, '50s and '60s paint a nostalgic and heart-warming portrait of children growing up in an Ireland that was much poorer (though perhaps much happier) than it is today. Entries can be viewed at: http://www.goldenireland.ie/blogs/ The winner will receive a Christmas holiday for two people in Hotel Westport to the value of €1,150. Yours, Geraldine McGlynn, Editor, Golden Ireland Directory Ltd, 23B McKee Road, Dublin 11.
