Navan's Mayor Cllr Anton McCabe leads the dash in Navan on Sunday morning.

Local SVP gains €3,000 from Santa Dash

Cold, crisp but dry weather facilitated Navan's big Santa Dash through the streets of the town last Sunday morning, which raised a total of over €3,000 for the local St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP). Led by Navan's Mayor, Cllr Anton McCabe, the fun event attracted more than 200 people, young and old - all dressed in Santa outfits - who walked, ran or jogged the 2.5km route through the town's main thoroughfares, now invitingly illuminated for the Christmas season. The leisure outing began and ended at Navan Town Centre, where the participants were afterwards provided with complimentary tea, coffee and other light refreshments. All adult entrants were given a Santa suit which they later kept, as well as a medal, while children under 13 were presented with a Santa hat and medal for taking part. Navan SVP has expressed its thanks to the participants for their support, the local gardai and voluntary services for their co-operation and assistance, as well as Slane athlete Ronan Wogan for his contribution in helping to organise the event.
