School principal 'hopeful' of deal after pupils' free milk is withdrawn
The principal of a Trim primary school has said he is hopeful of a compromise on the recent paring back of the milk and bun scheme, which had been running in the school for over 50 years. Cóilín " Coigligh, principal of St Mary's Convent Primary School, has sent a letter to Trim town clerk Brian Murphy and Trim Town Council cathaoirleach James O'Shea asking that the cancellation of milk to the school be reversed if there were less pupils included in the scheme. Trim Town Council has funded milk and a bun each morning to primary schoolchildren for over 50 years but the recently passed town council budget made no provision for milk to pupils due to the dire financial state of the town's books. "We received a letter at the school around two weeks ago saying that the milk was to be stopped immediately, but that measure doesn't affect the buns," said Mr " Coighligh.
