Longwood singer emerges as star on RTE's 'Voice of Ireland'
A talented young Longwood singer is proving to be one of the stars of RTE's 'The Voice of Ireland' TV programme. Elliot Canavan Doyle was in the enviable position of being able to choose his own mentor when three of the judges expressed an interest in mentoring him for the show. His rendition of Damien Rice's 'Nine Crimes' so impressed the judges in the blind auditions that judges Sharon Corr, Kian Egan and Brian Kennedy all wanted him on their teams and he eventually chose the Westlife star. He will now compete in a sing-off against one of Kian Egan's other contestants on Sunday 26th February. Elliot, who is a son of Laura and Mark Elliot, Longwood, says is is looking forward to the competition with "90 per cent nerves and 10 per cent excitement". Elliot went to school in Kilcock and studied at NUI Maynooth for a year, before deciding this year to concentrate on his music, as he had been performing in gigs around Dublin. He is a talented acoustic guitarist as well as singer and describes his style of music as "sad, heartbreak" stuff.
