Trim pupils get on their bikes for COW initiative

St Mary's Convent Primary School in Trim relaunched its Cycle on Wednesdays (COW) initiative after the winter break last week and also unveiled the school's new bicycle shelter. As part of their programme to achieve their fourth An Taisce Green Flag for transport, the school began its WOW (Walk on Wednesdays) days and COW (Cycle on Wednesday) days. The school was awarded its fourth Green Flag last year and has continued with the cycling and walking days to promote activity. These walking and cycling days ran from September until the winter months and returned last week following the winter break. Up to 40 children took part in last week's cycle to school and pupils were delighted to be escorted by the gardai for their first outing out this year. There three pick-up points are at Abbey View, Steeple Manor and the car park beside Tower View/Lidl. Children from fourth, fifth and sixth class can participate and are accompanied by a teacher and a parent from each starting point. Another teacher collects the school bags at the pick-up points. Pupils from second and third class can also participate but must be accompanied by a parent.
